Mom and dad always taught us to stay low, take a deep breath, think, and act.
I've done that about 16 times by now.
So let me catch you up on the story of how the whole world when down.
Mom, dad, Ross, and I were eating dinner consisting of: dry turkey, baked potatoes, salt, and metal tasting water.
A pure delicacy, right?
Ross picked at her turkey, her grey hair falling in her face. Everyone think twins are so similar, or the exact opposite. Ross and I are exact opposites.
Ross like leather pants, black band tees, and combat boots.
Her hair is dyed grey, with black tips. Her ears are adorned with black gadges, and three small silver studs in each ear. I touch my own ear, only one small blue stud.
I like plain tees, my grey wool jacket, skinny jeans, and sneakers. My hair is naturally auburn and slightly wavy.
I take the last bite of my potato, then chug my water. "May I be excused, sir?" I ask my dad.
He nods, "Clean away the plates, and you may." I stack mine and parents plate up and head to the kitchen. Our house is hooked up to a well, so we have our own water.
I rinse off the plates and scrub them with a sponge, using the soap mom makes from the herbs in the garden.
Then stack them into the drying rack. I walk past Mom and Ross, dad must have slipped into his office. I run up the stairs to my room, and flop into bed.
Our house is big enough so Ross and i don't have to share a room. I kick off my shoes and crawl under the covers.
I always go to bed early, so I can wake up at 4 to finish my homework, workout, shower, and have some free time till school begins. I take a deep breath and imagine black. Black skies, black water, everything black.
It's a tactic my parents taught me. If you think of something calm and neutral you sleep easier. I imagine black. I'm not sure why, maybe it's cause I find it peaceful. Deep breaths, Soon my mind slows down and I fall asleep.
