Now at this point, you're probably thinking "Okay, this is another romance story then." And you're partially right. There is romance, albeit a one sided one, but romance all the same. Over the next few months we grew close. But as far as admissions of feelings went, there wasn't any. She could come over to my house and we would talk about anything and everything.

She told me about how she and her mom had to move around a lot. Her dad was dead, to her at least. The real story was that he ran out on them after Kait (That's what I call her now) turned 6. I called him an asshole and she laughed, agreeing completely.

I tried to think of some deeply personal things like that to tell her but there was none. I had a pretty normal and fairly stable life. The weird part was that after all this time, I still didn't know where she lived. I offered to walk her home a couple times but she refused. Denied me time after time again. And although we had shared so much about each other, I still got the feeling that I didn't know as much as there might be.

I didn't pry, because everyone deserves to have their own secrets, but if you can remember (and I hope you can since it was stated in the previous chapter -_-), I'm a very curious person.

So I did what any curious person would do, after she left one night I followed her. I know, very stalker like. Plus, she had asked me if I was the type to do this the first time we talked and I had said no. But this was killing me, it was eating at every fibre of my being. I felt like we couldn't move on until I knew more about her. So I did, I followed her home, and this is where everything spirals into a direction I would have never expected.

I maintained a steady distance behind her, hiding in the shadows provided by the moon light and the trees. I made sure when she looked around she couldn't see me. She was apparently very paranoid because she kept on looking behind her as she went along. I wondered what was so bad about where she lived. Even if she was a hobo, I wouldn't judge. I wouldn't turn her away.

She kept walking until she turned unto a path leading into the woods. I was hesitant about following at first, I've seen too many horror movies to know this does NOT end well. But my curiosity won out over the paranoia. I entered, all my senses on high alert in case I needed to get the hell out. I stayed low and kept her in my sights, when something else entered my field of vision. It was a slight movement, so slight I wondered if I had imagined it.

I stood still, not daring to move until I knew if the movement was a figment of my imagination. I almost moved off, thinking that it was, when I saw it again! I wasn't the only one following Kait. The shadowy figure inched its way closer to Kait, she had stopped for some reason. It would get her if I didn't do something. She would know I was following her, and she would probably hate me for it, but it's better if she hates me and still be alive. I ran from my cover and jumped on the figure just in time to stop it from pouncing on Kait's back.

I tackled it to the floor and shouted, "Kait, run!"

Kait spun around, shock on her face as she stared at me wrestling on the ground with the person who was trying to get her. "Declan?" She exclaimed.

"Run!" I shouted as the attacker kicked me off of him, launching me a good distance back. I hit the ground hard, my head getting most of the blow. I started to black out. I sat up to see if Kait got the chance to run away, but what I saw was completely beyond my imagination. The attacker launched after Kait, but she easily side stepped him, hitting him hard into a tree. Kait's eyes glowed blue and a rift opened in the air, strange markings surrounding the dark spinning hole that opened in thin air.

A hand shot out from the hole and grabbed the attacker who was now struggling to get away. The hand dragged the attacker inside the hole and the hole disappeared, Kait stumbling for a second. She rushed over to me, calling my name. I couldn't reply though, because everything suddenly went black.
