Mitch and I walked farther and farther into the woods, mostly in silence. At one point I slipped on a rock and almost broke my face opened but he caught me haha dude has some awesome reflexes.
"Sooooo when are you gunna start talking?"
"Oh I'm so sorry. I'm a little out of it." I tell him.
"You know what? Let's not talk about that. Tonight should be about fun, right?" he put his arm around my shoulder and we walked toward the edge of the lake.
"Right."
We sat and skipped rocks in silence for a few hours, I knew he was watching me. I just knew it, It's like he was waiting for me to tell him something, to open up...
"Hey Jenn..."
"hm?"
"I......... It's just that.... um, you wanna head back before it gets too late?" I haden't even noticed.
"Uh, yeah. Sure. Thanks for being anti-social with me Mitch." I said half laughing.
"Yeh, no prob. Soooo is Jake taking you home or do I get that honor?" he asked
"You can take me if you want. Jake might've left already."
I checked my phone 12 AM. "Wow I had no idea how late it was."
When we got to the clearing there were people passed out, empty beer bottles, and the smell of a dowsed fire. I looked around for Mitch's bike, I didn't see it.
"Hey Mitch where's your bike?"
"My bike?........... Oh. yeah, didn't bring it."
"oh." I said back and then sat while he found his unknown vehicle.
~~Mitch~~
I knew she'd ask haha chicks dig bikes, besides it'll be cold tonight. My car has heating. Now where the fuck did I park?
"Hey Jenn over here" I yelled to her. She walked so slow unlike earlier when she walked at rabbit speed.
"Took ya long enough" I say holding the passenger side door opened. "Comfy?"
"Yeah thanks."
"Well, we have a 2 hour drive I should have you home by 2:30."
I started the car in hopes that she'd snap out of the trance she was in, something was bothering her. I just didn't know what. After driving 30 minutes in silence I pulled over at waffle house.. .
"You didn't eat anything back there did ya?" I asked her half smiling.
"huh? uum no, why'd we stop..............?" Seems like as the night goes on she just gets more sad. So not the girl I met this morning.
~~Jenn~~
I was busy sorting out my emotions when the car stopped and I heard Mitch say something that sounded a little like gibberish. It's like I couldn't control my emotions around him, even when I'm not saying anything it's like he's still listening. What the hell am I saying? I hardly know him. For all I know he could be an escaped psychopath.
We walked towards the door of the waffle house and my stomach basically karate chopped me in the throat.
"Heh, I knew you were hungry... So were you and Jake supposed to be hanging ou--..........."
My phone ringing cut him off. Jake.
"Helloo?"
"Jen?! Where are you? I'm so sorry, I'm on my way back."
"Oh well nice of you to call Jake. No worries though Mitch is taking me home after waffles. So how was your night?"
"C'mon Jennybean, I'm sorry ok? I was caught in the moment. It'll never happen again. I'll take her home and come and get you."
He'll take her home as in he took her to his place? As in she probably ate the fuck out of my marshmallows? Oh hell no.
"Ya know what Jake? I'll see you on Monday ok?" with that I hung up. I was tired of his excuses and on top of that he never has time for me anymore. Where'd our friendship go? What happened to no matter what? Maybe it's my fault. I should've told him what I saw today....
I looked up at Mitch only to find him already watching me. I looked away just in time to see a waitress with long auburn hair, and cleavage out of this world coming towards us smiling. She was smiling like she knew us or Mitch because that's who she was smiling at.
"Well hey there handsome! Ugh I missed you so much! So happy you're finally here to stay!"
"Hey Lynn I missed you too!" He says smiling as they hug each other.
Well if I wasn't already mentally fucked up from the events of today, this totally topped it off.
"Hey Lyn this is Jennifer. Jennifer, my aunt Lynn."
We exchange smiles and nice to meet you's and with that we were seated.
"What can I get you two kids?"
Mitch answered before I even looked at the menu. "You seem like the classic strawberry pancake kinda girl... 2 please."
We talked about graduation and senior week, he told me about his dog Tod, I told him how much I hate squids. I actually loosened up and laughed a bit. I really needed that.
"Ok, you kids have fun!" She waved to us from the door as we got into Mitch's car. That reminds me.
"You never said you had a car." I told him as he started the car and drove off.
"Well, you never asked."
"Do you trust me?"
"Do I trust you? No."
"Why?"
He turned on the music.
"Hey! You never answered me!" I yelled at him over the music and tried to figure out which of the million buttons was for the volume. I reached for it and he grabbed my hand.... it was only for a second but for some reason it felt right.
He moved my hand away and pointed to the volume button. "Ooooh, I was sooo off." I burst out laughing. He turned the music down and with a serious look on his face he said "Are you ticklish?"
"Yeeeeah why?
"Just asking!" he said smiling and turned the music back up.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and there were 7 text messages. 6 from Jake and one from a blocked number. I slid it back into my pocket and leaned against the window.
"tired?"
"mhm...." was all I managed to get out before I was asleep.
