~~Mitch~~

I figured she fell asleep because she didn't say anything else. By the time we got back to town she'd gotten about 300 calls from Jake. That guy is such a dick.

He called again and again so, I decided to answer.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Jenny?"

"Nope."

"Wait, who's this?"

"This is Mitchel, Why do you keep calling? She's asleep."

"She's aleep? Is she with you?"

"Of course not...." I guess I can mess with his head a bit.

"What?!?! Where is she?"

"Hey I gotta go. See you in class Tuesday!!"

"No do--"

Just as I hung up I saw her staring at me.

"Uh heeeey... I see you're awake."

"Who was that?" She sounded so cute when she was tired.

"Oh um no one really, just your annoying best friend."

"Thanks..."

"For?"

"Nevermind.."

I need to figure out what's bothering her... It's like she shut down for some reason. She was fine when I dropped her off at her house earlier.

"D'you wanna know something about me?" I asked her knowing she'd say yes.

"Umm, yeah sure."

I pulled the car over to the river's edge and undid my seat belt so that I could face her.

"Well, I moved here because my parents thought I'd benefit from interacting with kids my own age. Not saying you're a kid but, that's the way my parents said it. I live by myself, my parents are back in Russia."

"Russia? So you're Russian? Why here?"

"My Dad says that if I go to university here in America I'll be able to branch the business."

"That doesn't explain why you have a perfect American accent ha ha."

"Yeah well, I vacationed here a lot with my aunt. I guess I kind of adapted her accent. So what's your story Jennifer?"

"My story?"

"Yes, your story."

"Well when I was about 14 my parents were killed by a drunk driver, Jake was all I had besides my aunt. Lately he's been, well, different. It's almost like I don't know who he is anymore."

"I'm sorry about your parents....... I couldn't imagine losing mine. You're actually quite a tough chick if you asked me." I told her trying to lighten her mood.

She half smiled and sunk back into her seat. "So, ready to get moving? I'd hate to keep you out any longer, I should have had you home an hour ago."

"It's ok, I'd rather be out here in the middle of nowhere than back home to face reality."

"Reality may not be so bad Jenn." I told her as I started the engine and pulled off.

We got to her place right before the crack of dawn. I would have spent hours with her but, I'd never tell her that. I just waved and said I'll see you on Monday, don't sleep too late, I'm such a shithead sometimes. I didn't even want to go home, I decided I'd go see Heather.
