I peered over at Shadow, examining his appearance closely. He appeared to hold himself in stern composure, ready to take on anything. He seemed to be in a position of authority, based on his serious tone. But, beyond that facade, I could tell that something has been vexing him. The problem was, I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
"Something bothering you?" Shadow mused, strolling over to me.
"I just can't quite figure you out" I said bluntly.
"I believe we are having the same problem." He said in almost a playful manner. But he expressed nothing on his stone hard face.
"Why are you aiding me in my mission? I can handle it on my own, and it's none of your concerns." I asked brashly.
"The same answer as to why are they helping you."Shadow asked, raising a brow.
Swishing my tail back and forth, I took that into consideration. He turned and walked away from me, shoes crunching the dry earth below. I was startled by a shrill voice calling my name. I turned around to come face to face to Cream, cheery as ever.
"Hello Ms.Blaze! Is something bothering you?" She asked politely.
"Nothing. I'm fine. You should probably head back to camp, it's getting dark." I mumbled. I didn't want to worry the poor girl, and frankly, it was none of her concerns.
"Your right, thank you Ms.Blaze. But, if there is anything you want to talk about I'm here!" She said nicely, skipping off to camp. I rubbed my temples and exhaled. Just before I was going to head back to camp, I heard some low voices. I squinted my eyes and decided to investigate. My ears turned in the direction the voices were, and I quickly strode over there. A conveniently placed tree was perfect for keeping my cover, and I hide behind it, only poking my head out enough to see the culprits.
Just as I thought.
"Kitty sure has a hard shell to crack. Shadow, how has everything gone?" Rouge said while filing her nails.
"She has her suspicions, but she has no idea. I'll be able to get to her, it'll... Just take more time." Shadow murmured.
"We don't have much time. You need to get the princess to trust you. Or else she may have the same fate as her comrade." OMEGA said.
My nails scratched against the bark of the birch tree, teeth gritting in a dangerous way. Nobody plays me like that. I can't believe how close I was to trusting them. I lurched at Shadow, fiery embers in my hands, shouting curse words at all of them. I wrapped my hands around Shadow's neck, scalding his neck, causing his skin to bubble up. In an instant, he was right behind me, drop kicking me. I fell to the ground, shooting rapid balls off fire at him. Rouge and Omega pinned down my arms, but I jumped back, snapping Rouges arm. I took off at a sprint, a long trail of fire behind me. I could hear Shadow teleporting closer to me, and I went at a maximum speed, panting like a dog. I could see a gray building in the distance, but I couldn't quite make out the sign. It was my only chance to escape. I felt my energy running low, and I felt like I was going to faint. Just... A little... Further. I felt myself slow down. I felt myself shaking, and as I came to a halt, I leaned over and hurled. Shocked, I wretched again, only bile coming up. I haven't eaten anything since the fall of my kingdom, which has been quite a while. My tired eyes rose to meet the red eyes of the victor. I felt hate seep into my eyes, as I made a barrier of fire around myself. I huffed placing my hands on my hips, catching my breath. Omega leapt over the barrier, but I was faster. I shot a blast of fire at him, causing him to soar through the air. I felt something topple on top of me, and immediately recognized the ebony quills. My face heated up, probably from the fire, and my brows furrowed, as I hissed at him.
"I don't hurt girls, but you gave me no choice. It's over. Though I must admit, you just about ripped a hole in space at the speed you were going. Too bad your so weak." Shadow snarled, mocking me towards the end.
"I never give up a fight. And the tables shall be turned." I growled, flipping him over so he was on the ground. Just as I was about to burn him, I felt weak and unsteady. Black spots blurred my vision, and the energy was being drained from me. The next thing I knew was I collapsed onto Shadow. I felt in danger... But safe at the same time. And the last thing that I could remember, was him placing his hand on my back and carrying me. I buried my face into his shoulder, and blacked out.
