Charlotte's POV

Soon, the end of summer came and I had to go back to school. I was excited to go. It meant that I could see my closest friend, Kaylee. I've known her since I was put into the orphanage and had to go to school. She was the only one who said anything to me; the orphan from the United Kingdom who's parents abandoned her. She felt like she and I could relate. Kaylee was born in Greece and moved here when she was seven. Her parents died in a car crash two months later, causing her to have to live with her grandparents. She and I haven't talked since the end of school three months ago so I was excited to see her again and to tell her about my new life. On September 6th (If any of you guys live out in California, please don't correct me on the date. I live in Minnesota and we go back to school in Sept.) at 10 o'clock, Nate and I said good night to each other and we both went to bed. The next morning, I woke up before my alarm. I rushed over to my closet and pulled out a pair of jeans, my black suede boots and a top that said I love Paris on it as well as the matching scarf. I put my hair up in a ponytail and slipped on a black hair bow. Looking at my reflection in the mirror, I looked as cute as I could be. I took a picture for Twitter and went downstairs, my backpack in my hand. Nate was barely awake, a coffee cup in his hand. "Hey kiddo. You ready for school?" I nodded and gripped the strap on my backpack. "I'm super excited. I can't wait to see my friend again." He smiled and gave me a hug. "Well, you better get going. I love you." he said. "I love you too D...Nate." I wasn't ready to call him Dad yet. A shimmer of sadness shown in his eyes. I walked out the door and made my way to the high school. Many kids were making their way into the school. Many of them were greeting each other like they hadn't seen each other in years. I kept my head down, keeping an eye out for Kaylee. I saw her at her locker, putting her notebooks and folders into her locker. "Hey Kaylee!" I said. She looked up at me; I took a step back. The Kaylee I remembered was gone and was replaced by a hardcore rocker girl. "Oh, hey Charlotte." She didn't sound as excited as I did seeing her after an entire summer. She also called me by my full name, not by my nickname. "I...I missed you. You clearly don't feel the same." She shut her locker and looked me up and down. "Nicer clothes, expensive shoes. A really nice backpack. You clearly don't live at the orphanage anymore." I looked at her, hurt. I thought she would be super happy for me. "No. I was adopted. But clearly you don't care. Nice to see you again I guess." I walked away from my "best friend" and to my homeroom. I looked at my reflection for any smudged makeup. None that I could see. I walked in and saw some people from middle school. I sat down in on the side of the room, waving to the people I knew. One person in particular caught my eye. The blue hair gave her away. I walked up and tapped her shoulder. "Charlotte!" she said excitedly. "Hey Lyanna!" She gave me a hug and I did the same. "It's so awesome seeing you again!" she said, her green eyes lighting up. "Same with you!" One of her friends put a hand on her shoulder. "Ly, who is this." he asked. "Oh, Kile, this is Charlotte. Charlotte this is Kile, Amber, Myka and Hale." she said, pointing each one of them out. I waved to them and Myka came up and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "I like this on Ly. Where did you find her?" she asked, some of her blueish-purple hair resting on my shoulder. "I found her while I was out shopping. We fought over the last black wrap bracelet in the entire store." Kile took Lyanna's hand in his and squeezed it. "And you came out alive? Wow she's a keeper." The bell rang and we made our way to our seats. Myka ushered me over to where they were sitting and I sat down with them.

4 hours later

Myka stayed with me until lunch. I never saw Kaylee again. Luckly for the five of us, we all had the same lunch. Some kids gave us looks; me especially. "Ignore them. They hate us for whatever reason." Amber said. "Especially Malia, the queen bee. Stay out of her path." Hale said, his first words said to me all day. As we walked through the line, some people whispered and pointed at me. Some even laughed. Lyanna and Kile led us to the very back of the lunch room. We spent the lunch period laughing and making jokes. Malia eventually made it over to us. "Oh, look it's the scene. Still looking dorky as usual." Her followers laughed at her joke. "Oh look, the orphan made her way over here. Right where she belongs." Her words stung. She had no right to say those things. Lyanna looked at her funny. "There's no reason for you to be here. And leave us alone." "Gladly. I don't want to be seen with you freaks anyway. Have fun with the orphan." Her and her pack made their way back to their table. At the back of the pack was a face I never wanted to see. I held my tears in as Kaylee walked away with them. "Orphan? There's no orphan here." Amber said. I slowly raised my hand and looked down at the table in shame. "Yes there is." I said, meekly. I had always been ashamed to tell people that. I didn't want their pity. I just wanted to be excepted. "Wait, you're an orphan? Why didn't you tell us?" Lyanna asked. "Because I don't want the questions. Where my parents are, was I adopted. I don't want any pity. My parents didn't love me in any way and abandonded me in the big city of LA. My life hasn't been the best and I don't want any special attention for it." I didn't mean to start crying. I wiped my cheeks and noticed the smudged makeup. I grabbed my napkin and wiped away my makeup. "We weren't going to say anything about it. We aren't as nosy like other people." Hale said. Myka wrapped her arms around me and hugged me. Amber said nothing and went back to her lunch. "Hey, it's ok. We accept you for who you are," Kile said. "And we promise," Lyanna said, looking over at Kile, "That we won't press you for any answers." I smiled and squeezed her hand. "Thank you guys. I really appreciate it."

3 hours later

The day ended without any major incedent. I went to put my locker to put my textbooks away. When I reached the salmon colored locker, it was covered with insults. Things like "Orphan" and "Abandoned". I quickly threw my books into my locker and ran out of the school, tears flowing down my cheeks. I saw Kaylee walking with Malia. Their heads were together, gossping between each other. I ran past them and down the street to my home. The place where there's no whispering, no gossip. I almost tripped as I ran through the door and collapsed behind the door.
