Three months later
Charlotte's POV
"Thank you guys for watching and I'll see you guys around the web." I turned the camera and transfered the footage onto my computer. I began editing when my skype went off. It was for an unknown user. I clicked it and went over to my closet to organize. "Hello, this is Charlotte." "Charlotte, is that you?" I stopped dead in my tracks. My mother was on the other side of this conversation. The one who abandoned me. "Mom?" I refused to step in front of the camera. To have her look at the daughter she never wanted. "Charlotte, let me see you." I inched my way over to the screen. "Oh, it is you. James! I found her!" I almost collapsed when my father came into view. The one who abused me to the point of death. "Oh, my daughter. We've been looking everywhere for you." "Well I haven't been looking for you. My life has changed since you left me. And I want nothing to do with you. Leave me and my father alone!" I slammed the top down and ran out to find Nate. I then remembered he was out with Morgan. I sat on the bottom step and cried. With today's technology, they could track me. They could take me back. I didn't want that. My life is in LA, not the UK. An hour later, the front door unlocked and Nate and Morgan walked in. "Char, what's wrong?" Morgan asked. "My parents. They, they." "They what sweetheart. What happened?" Nate asked. "They found me. They were on Skype and they said they had spent forever trying to look for me." I wanted to go on, but more tears came before I could. "I'm not ready to say goodbye to this. They can't take me back, can they?" Nate looked up at Morgan with a worried look. "They shouldn't be able to. Nate is technically your legal guardian. They would have to go to court to get you back." Morgan explained. "I don't want them to. They abused me. They shouldn't be able to take me back. And they know I'm in LA." Nate held me close and made circles on my back. "I promise they won't get to you. I'll make sure of it. And you can hold me to that." I smiled and gave him a hug. "Thank you Dad." Nate smiled and hugged me back. Morgan came down to our level and joined us. "We'll protect you. Don't worry. They won't hurt you."
Later that week
I walked home with the Lyanna, Amber, and Myka who were all sleeping over at my house. We were all laughing as we walked down the street. "Did you see Malia's face when half of her followers left? Best reaction ever!" Myka said, giggling. "I know. Someone should make her face a meme." Lyanna agreed. "Already done," I said. "It's all over Twitter and Snapchat. We all laughed when we looked at her face again. As we turned the corner onto my street, I noticed the two faces I never wanted to see. "Charlotte, are you ok?" Amber asked, shaking my arm. "Lets just hurry. Please?" We fast walked the rest of the way to my house. I shut the door as soon as we were all in. "Charlotte, what's wrong? Why did we have to walk so fast?" Lyanna asked. "My parents." "Nate and Morgan? Wait, not Morgan. They're not married." Myka wondered. "No, my birth parents." Lyanna looked out the window at the couple walking across the street. I looked through the peephole. "They're stopping like right across the street from the house." Amber described. "Let's just go to my room. And no one answer the door." The girls grabbed their bags and went upstairs. I quickly wrote a note to Nate and stuck it on the door to his recording room; the one place I know he'll see it. I took a deep breath as I walked into my room. The girls were all admiring the photos on my wall. "This one's adorable! Where was this one taken?" Myka asked. She pointed to the one just over my lamp. "Oh, that one was taken at Newport Beach. Nate had the bright idea to come up behind me and pick me up. He succeeded. Morgan took that one." I laughed at the recent memory. "That's so cute. I wish my dad was like that." Lyanna said. "My dad left when I was two. Mom was left to raise me from then on." Amber said. We all stopped and looked at her. "Char, you said you finished that song you were working on. Could we see it?" she said, changing the subject. "Not yet. It comes out on Sunday." "Come on, not even a peek?" Myka asked. I shook my head. You know I love you guys, but I have to stay firm on this one." They all groaned. "Then can you sing us something else?" Amber asked, setting up her sleeping bag. "Pretty please?" Myka asked giving me puppy eyes. I sighed and sat down on my desk chair. "Fine. Just for you guys."
Nate's POV
I opened the front door, pizza for the girls in my hands. I set the boxes down on the kitchen counter. "Girls! Pizza!" They all came down the stairs as blurs of colored hair. "Thanks Dad!" Charlotte said. I patted her head and they went back upstairs. "Don't make a mess!" The door shut and all was quiet again. I walked upstairs to my recording room. On the door was a piece of paper.
Nate,
My parents found me. Don't let anyone in under any circumstances. Tell Morgan the door's unlocked. Don't let them get to you.
Charlotte
I pulled the piece of paper off the door and walked downstairs. Sure enough, a husband and wife were across the street. One had brown hair and the other had Charlotte's bright red. I pulled out my phone and told Morgan that they were here. She said she would be right over with her over night bag. I smiled, wondering why we ever broke up in the first place. The door opened and Morgan walked in. "Was that them? The people across the street?" I nodded. "Did you tell Charlotte?" "She was the one who told me. She must have seen them on her way back from school." "We'll keep our promise. We told her we would." I went over to shut the curtains that covered the window. "We let no one in. Check who it is before opening the door." She nodded. I was nervous for my daughter. I didn't want them coming near her, but today there are ways they can force me to. A knock on the door interupted my thinking. I hurried over to the door and looked through the peephole. Sure enough, the brown haired mother was standing outside the door. I locked the door and stepped away. Charlotte snuck down the stairs. "Is it them?" I nodded. "We won't let them get to you. I promise." She ran over to me and hugged me. She trembled in my arms. I did my best to calm her down. "Go on, your friends are over. Go have fun." She slinked off back up the stairs.
Charlotte's POV
I opened my bedroom door greeted my closest friends. "Char, your trembling. Are you sure you're ok?" Lyanna asked, concerned. "I'm just scared. They hurt me like no kid should be hurt. And I don't want to go back to that." "Nate said he wouldn't let anyone touch you. The same goes for us." Amber said patting the carpet next to her. "We're your family just as much as Nate and Morgan are. You aren't leaving us. Not on our watch. We can promise you that." Myka said. "Thank you guys. I love you." They smiled and we all pulled in for a group hug.
