Charlotte's POV
I fell asleep that night to the crickets and traffic outside my open window. It wasn't much different from the orphanage, but it was definitely more quiet. The next morning, I was ready for the day ahead. Nate promised he would take me out shopping for a new wardrobe. And I promised I would pay for it myself. I pulled out the money jar I had and started counting the cash. My previous estimate of two hundred dollars was false as it turned out to be close to four hundred. And I earned it all myself. I put it neatly back into the jar and set it on my desk. I knew Nate wouldn't be awake for awhile, so I pulled out a couple sheets of lined paper and my guitar. I had an idea for a song that I had to write down or I would forget it. At nine o'clock, I heard a door open. I put the paper away and set the guitar down. My door opened and Nate walked in. "Hey kiddo. What'ya doin?" he asked, rubbing his eyes. "Making some music. I had an idea for a song as I was falling asleep." He nodded and sat down on the floor next to me. "So, are you ready for today?" I nodded. "Just promise me you won't leave me alone for too long. Please?" I begged. He tilted his head quizically. "My parents left me alone at a mall and they got on a plane back to the UK." "Charlotte Louise Sharp. I wouldn't abandon you even if my life depended on it. I don't understand what parent would abandon their child." "My parents always called me a mistake. Both to my face and behind my back. They never wanted a child." "Well, you aren't a mistake. You are a sweet and sensible young lady." I smiled at his compliments. "Come on, let's go get breakfast then we can go out." He helped me up off the floor and carried me bridal style down the stairs. I laughed at his antics.
Two hours later
As we drove to the mall, we made small talk about what our lives were before the adoption. The thing I was most hoping for was for him to tell me about the girl on his phone. It never came up. Before we walked in, Nate stopped me. "I meant to give this to you yesterday, but we were really busy." He handed me a new smartphone; activated and everything. "So you'll never lose me." I smiled and threw my arms around his shoulders. "Come on, lets go." The first store we both agreed to go in was Hot Topic. He was looking for a new Panic! t-shirt and I was looking for the makeup to start my Harley Quinn cosplay. I walked out with what I needed and a dress that looked like the Tardis from Doctor Who. The nerdy side of me came out with that one. "Alright. We'll meet back here in two hours. Got it?" Nate said. I nodded. "If you need me, my number is already on your phone." I took a deep breath. "I'll see you soon." I said, turning my back to walk to a different store. I really wanted to go to Gordmans. They have the cutest clothes for the lowest price. With my list in my mind, I started to look around. In my arms were four pairs of black skinny jeans, a plain black button up shirt, a knockoff Pink sweatshirt, and a dozen cute tops. And it only totaled to about 150 dollars. I swung around to the accessories needing a couple wrap braclets. There was only one black one left on the shelf. I picked out a silver one and grabbed for the black one. At the same time, a girl with blue hair and green eyes reached for it as well. "Oh, sorry. Here, you can have it." she said. "No. You have it. I can come back another time. Trust me." I answered back, pushing it towards her. "Really? Thanks! Sorry, where are my manners? I'm Lyanna." She stuck her hand out and I shaked it. "Charlotte." "Nice to meet you Charlotte. Do you live in LA? You sound like you're from England." "I was. My family decided to move here" I lied. I didn't want her to know I was actually an orphan. Then the sympathy face would appear and I didn't want that. "Wow. Oh, my mom's calling me. It was nice to meet you." She waved goodbye and walked away. I smiled at her friendliness. I grabbed the last of the accessories I wanted and went over to the shoes. I smiled at a cute pair of black suede boots with a little bow around the top. I grabbed the box in my size and went to go pay for my new clothes. When I was called up, the cashier stopped me. "Is your name Charlotte?" she asked. I nodded slowly. "This is for you. Another young lady bought it for you." she said as she started scanning my clothes. I grabbed the thing she was talking about from the counter. It was the black wrap braclet Lyanna and I both wanted. I smiled and chuckled. I paid for my clothes and walked out of the store, six bags worth of clothes in my arms. The other store I wanted to go to was Forever 21. I needed a couple cute dresses and a nice one for special occasions. I found the cute ones right away and then stumbled upon the perfect dress. It was a pure white dress with a bow across the waist. I smiled and grabbed the one in my size. I saw a cute flower crown and grabbed it too. After two hours, I was ready to meet Nate. I got there before him and sat down on a bench near the Hot Topic. I bit my lip after 20 minutes passed. He promised me. I pulled out my phone and almost called him. My thumb hovered over the call button. Suddenly, someone touched my waist, making me jump. "Hey kiddo." I jumped up and gave him a hug. "I was worried. Don't do that!" He embraced me and shook his head. "I wasn't going to leave you. I promised. And I never go back on my word." He let me go and helped me with some of my bags. "Come on. You have a closet to fill."
