So.. He's After Us?

Dakota's pov

"Care to explain what's happening?"

Everyone snapped their heads towards me and they widened their eyes.

Mom looked stressed and tired and worry was lacing her facial features. 

"Mom what's happening?"  I asked demandingly.

"Nothing. Go back upstairs. "  she said.

Anger consumed me.  I knew she was hiding something. 

"Mom what's wrong with you! Why aren't you telling me the truth? Mom I've been attacked TWO times!  TWO FREAKING TIMES and this time it was meant for killing me! Do you really want to see me dead or something? I mean that-"

"Enough!"

I looked to see my mom standing up with tears of fury and sadness within them. 

"Dakota calm down its-"  aunt Emily was cut off by mom.

"No Emily.  If she wants to know, then let her know it!"

Everyone sat down.  I knew that whatever this was, it was related to everyone in this room and it scared them. 

"Back in the days when I fought.. "  mom started,  "I used to work under a leader.  His name was Roy.  When I got my father killed, a man on the scene saw me and blackmailed me that if I didn't give him money every month, he'll tell the police.  I got scared.  I had no money and mom was also not there.  I found out Roy and he helped me.  He killed the man who blackmailed me and told me to join his group and work for him.  I did.  I did everything that he said.  But then slowly slowly,  I felt horrible.  I didn't wanna fight anymore for wrong reasons, hurting people. I decided to leave the gang.  And that's when your dad, uncle Blake and aunt Emily come to the picture.  Roy kidnapped them at a point and I had to save them from him.  I got stabbed by one of his bimbos and then and there decided to finish him.  Andy helped me and we fought them.  I handed them to the police and was relieved that nothing could harm us.  But now... "

She choked and her fists clenched.  "That bastard is back! The attacks, the threatening messages! They're all him! I went with Doris to the jail and they told us, he ran away 3 months back."

I froze where I was standing. 

"So.. He's after us?"

"I guess. But I'm unable to understand how he's getting all the information about us? I don't know if you guys believe it or not, I totally think we have a traitor within us." Doris frowned.

"I agree. "  uncle Andy said.   "There is someone.. Who knows everything about us and our whereabouts."

I stayed silent and let the information sink in.  So there's a man out there who wants us dead?

Yeah.

Clearly not terrifying.

"Mom I'm back."  

I saw Adrian coming inside with a bag of pizzas and junk food.

He gave my forehead a kiss and went to the kitchen.

"Mom?"

She looked towards me.

"Something weird happened today. "

"What?"

"Remember today? The guys attacking us? Well there was this one guy Nate.  He didn't harm me and he muttered something like  'he didn't sign up for this'.  He just winked at me and went away.."   I frowned as I finished.
