Bearer's P.O.V.
I sigh as I listen to my first period teacher talk about our American history. My eyelids become heavy as I struggle to stay awake. My friend nudges me slightly and my head pops up. "quit falling asleep. Your making me sleepy." Emma whispers to me. I chuckle softly and apologize. "Sorry, I didn't get that much sleep last night." Emma glares at me. She hates it when I don't eat or sleep. But I can't help it! I just forget sometimes! I don't know how but I do. Don't judge me.
The teacher then tells us to get our books and take out our notebooks. "Your turn." Emma speaks without looking at me. I sigh and get up to get our books. A few other students walk to the shelf to get their books too. I grab the books and head back to my seat. But before I reach it, loud banging sounds can be heard from the door. I stop in my tracks along with everyone else. We all turn to the door and stare. The teacher rises from his desk and walks over. But before he can reach it, the intercom screeches to life. "Excuse the interruption, but all the teachers are to lock all doors immediately." It cuts off before they can talk again.
The teacher quickly rushes to the door and locks it. The banging gets louder. He turns off the lights. The banging gets even louder. The teacher turns to us an puts a finger to his lip and motions us to get down. We do as instructed and get onto our knees. A few kids crawl under their desks and others find a corner of the room and huddle. Emma is huddled under her desk while I sit on the ground, falling asleep. Emma notices and pinches me. My eyes shoot open and my hands fly up to my face to cover my mouth. I shoot a glare at her and she shrugs. The banging eventually fades into a regular human knocking. The teacher was convinced that it was student as he walked to the door to let them in. I notice this and grab Emma's hand. I abruptly stand up and race for the window. Bobo and Cathy got up due to my sudden action. Larry followed us. In case you are wondering, those three people are in my friend squad. Along with Emma and myself. I open the window and climb out as the teacher fiddles with his keys. The others jump out and I close the window.
I look through the dark glass and watch the events that unfolded before us. As soon as the door was unlocked, it flew across the room with great force. I stare, shocked. I can't even see what it was but in a split second, the entire class was ripped to shreds. Splatters of blood were on every wall and not a single soul was still alive in that classroom. Emma gasped. Cathy turned away shivering. Larry put a hand on Emma's shoulder. Bobo was throwing up her breakfast. While I stared and stared and stared.
My mouth twitched. I squeeze my eyes shut and turn away. I march up to the fence and start to climb. Once at the top I call down to the others. "You gonna climb, or not." I don't wait for an answer and jump down onto the other side. They seemed to consider it but end up climbing the fence, making it rattle loudly. I flinch at the audible noise and shush them. They continue to climb more silently. Once over the fence I start to head towards the street. "Wait!" Bobo called out. I turned towards her and gave her a questioning look. She puts her two index fingers together and looks away. "Um, I'm uh, I'm not leaving without Brandon." She concludes while looking at the ground. "Well good luck with that." Is all I say and then I turn back around and start walking. Bobo's jaw dropped and her eyes widened. "Your just gonna leave him here?!" She asked with disbelief filling her voice. "Uh, yeah! The a**hole has never done anything to make me like him." I say with boredom lacing my voice. She doesn't say anything as she drops her head. "Besides, did you not just see what happened back there, if we try to go back we'll end up dead for sure."
I continue walking towards the street just to be pulled back by the collar of my shirt. I fall to my bottom and look up to see a flaming truck zoom a few feet in front of me. I stare without processing the situation. When my head finally grasped it I turn to thank my savior. It was Emma, classic Emma. I get up and dust myself off. I look her in the eyes and say, "thanks." That's it. I turn and start to walk again. They all follow, even Bobo. We walk away from the school as screams begin to rip through the air. Girls, boys. Young, adults. Anyone and everyone was yelling and begging for their lives. But their pleas fell upon def ears. The def ears of a monster. I cringe a little when I remember the state of our old classroom.
The truth was, I'm trying my hardest not to have a panic attack. The way the others reacted, we wouldn't last a minute. I take a shaky breath and walk down the deserted street. The others follow solemnly. Bobo stares at the ground. She stops. I stop and turn to look at her. The others look at her too. "I'm sorry, but I love Brandon too much to abandon him!" She finishes close to tears. "Do what you want, I'm not in any way going to help." I say coldly. She humphs and races back towards the school. We enter through a different fence. One with less wood going through it. Meaning a bare chain-link fence. Bobo leads us all back to the death trap. We follow because we got nothing better to do. She takes us to the a**hole's class. She looks through the glass only to real back and hurl more of her stomach's contents. I look away in disgust. I hear someone gag. I turn my body away and shiver a bit. I guess they met the same fate.
We walk around for a bit. We see blood everywhere we turn. There's no denying that sh*t's going down. I stop in front of the first semi-full body I see. It's still torn to shreds but it's more intact that all the others. I kneel down and look at it. Even though I want to throw up I force myself to stare. This is reality. This is what's going on right now. There's no turning away from. I have to accept to cold truth and realize that this is the apocalypse, whether I thought it to be zombies or not. However I have a feeling that I have been through the zombie apocalypse before, but I don't recall ever hearing the word zombie. Strange.
