Bearer's POV
As I intensely stare at the corpse I notice something off. I reach my hand towards its exposed chest. "What are you doing?" Someone speaks in a hushed whisper. I jump a little and pull my hand away. "Nothing!" I quickly respond. I turn towards the source of the voice and see everyone staring at me. I titter nervously while rubbing the back of my head. I look away from their confused stares. I gulp and speak. "Really, nothings happening! Let's just... keep going." I finish in an almost inaudible whisper. They all nod and we continue walking. Except for me. I kneel down next to the body and quickly snatch something from its chest and rush to catch up with the others. I hold my hands behind my back to hide the object... and the blood. It sickened me. The warm liquid ran down my hands and dropped onto the cement ground as we continued our search. We looked around the entire school without finding a single living soul.
As we walked through the halls, I heard some muffled ruffling. My curiosity got the best of me as I followed it to the janitor closet. The window was splattered with blood. I get closer and hear muffled crying. I knock on the door and their breathe hitches. I call out to them. "Hey, is anyone in there? Please, I won't hurt you." My voice was soft and gentle. They were obviously traumatized. "go away..." a small voice sounded from the room. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" I asked them worriedly. "I said go away." "But..." "GO AWAY! please, I don't want to hurt you..." confused I backed away from the door. "I-I'm sorry." That was all I said before I walked away.
I went back to the teacher's lounge where everyone was sitting and waiting. Waiting for nothing to happen. As I walk in everyone looks at me. Then they look at my hands. I was confused at first, but then I realized. "What happened there?" Larry questioned. My eyes widen as I look away and say, "Nothing, nothing happened." I don't allow them to say anything before I turn away and say, "I'll be right back." I then dart out of the room and down one of the halls to the bathrooms. I burst in and see blood everywhere. Not a big surprise, yet it's still shocking.
I walk over to the sink and turn the faucet. Water pours out freely. I look at my hands and notice one of them is closed into a fist. I open it and see something odd. It looked like a pearl, yet it wasn't white. It was covered in blood. I gently placed it under the stream of water. The blood slid off easily. After it was clean, I placed it on the side of the faucet and rinsed my hands until they were free of blood. I picked up the object and looked at it again. It looked like space. I was enthralled by this object and I couldn't stop staring. Then I heard footsteps. I immediately put the pearl-thing in my pocket and whipped my head towards the door. It was Bobo.
She looked concerned. "Hey, you alright? You kind of just ran out on us." She said. I titter again and say,"I was just feeling a little nauseous. You know, since all the bodies and blood, it might be getting to me a little. But don't worry, I'm fine." I finished not as bold as how I started. She looks at me with worry evident on her face. "Ok, I trust you." She then walks over to the sink and looks at the broken mirror in front of it. "We still haven't found Brandon, but I know he's out here somewhere. He has to be. I just know he's okay and looking for me too." I cringe at how weak she sounds. It's completely ridiculous to depend on him that much. I bet he's been dead for a little while now. It was a miracle that we lived. That sounds stupid especially since I was the one who made us leave, but it was just a hunch. In truth I was questioning myself the entire time. And now, I'm still in school, in the bathroom, with Bobo, hiding a space pearl, and trying not to gag at the mention of Brandon.
After searching for a few hours it started getting late. It was dark by the time we called it quits. We were afraid to travel at night so we just chilled in school. I hated it. Our home base is the teacher's lounge. No one is allowed to go by themselves. Classes with a slip of paper on the door are checked and off limits. When I think back to it. There were bathrooms near the lounge yet I ended up rushing to the ones farther away. Great job me. Great job. It was late and we were all tired. But we couldn't sleep for fear something might happen. I especially didn't want to sleep in case someone found my space pearl. Slowly, one by one, everybody fell asleep. I was the last one awake by the end of the night. I left my phone at home so I don't know what time it is. Good thing I took that watch in the bathroom. What. It's the apocalypse. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Right at this moment, it is 2:30 am. Well then. I don't feel like sleeping but I know I'll get yelled at by Emma if I don't. But maybe I could just act like I slept, just for a little. "Are you ever gonna sleep tonight or do I have to knock you out." The sound of Emma's tired voice sounded through the pitch black room. I look in the general direction of the voice and respond. "Sorry, it's just been a tough day. I'll go to sleep now." Then after waiting a few seconds I hear her plop back down onto the bed we made of rags and jackets. I sigh and lie down on the 'bed'. I reach into my pocket and feel for the space pearl. I see a soft glow and quickly shove my hand into my pocket to try and hide it. I quickly sit up and rush out of the teacher's lounge. I stand in the middle of the hall, not wanting to go into any rooms or the bathrooms. I hate dark rooms with mirrors. It scares the hell out of me. Anyways, as I stand in the hall I slowly pull out the space pearl. It glows dully. Then I hear a sound. Like a dull thudding sound. It is coming from the janitors closet.
