“Holly, wake up!” Abigail shouted as she whacked Holly with the pillow for the tenth time.

“I’m getting up, I’m getting up!” the brunette mumbled as she sat up unwillingly.

“Good,” Abigail smiled. “Because this is your first full day on campus so we need to hurry up and get you ready.”

Holly rubbed her eyes until they were wide open. Sighing, she stood up and saw Lucy making her bed.

“Where can I have a shower?” Holly asked, turning around to her own bed and attempting to make it.

Lucy laughed before Abigail answered. “The shower block is on the other side of the campus. Come on let’s go.”

Holly and Abigail gathered their fresh garments before exiting the tent. Even though it was early morning, people were already walking around the grounds, some with arms full of clothes, others heading down to the dining hall to get a head start on breakfast. Holly didn’t understand how these people could look so content this early in the morning.

After both the girls had showered and changed into their uniforms, they headed to the dining hall where they were meeting up with Lucy, Louis and Liam. As they entered the heavy oak doors, Holly’s eyes immediately began searching for someone in particular until she laid her eyes on Zayn who was staring right back at her with a small smile on his face. After their trip to the training centre last night, Zayn and Holly had walked back to their tents in complete silence. Holly had been upset with all his curious questions and Zayn was just confused as he tried to work her out. Now, Holly was unsure of why he had wanted to know so much about her since in the past, nobody had really paid her any attention. So, instead of smiling back like she wanted to, Holly turned her back towards Zayn and followed Abigail to the food line.

“So,” Abigail said quietly to Holly. “What happened last night with Zayn?”

“Nothing exciting,” Holly replied honestly.

Abigail’s face fell as she had been expecting some exciting gossip. Abigail could already tell something was brewing between the pair and as much as she didn’t want her friend to get in trouble, she also wanted something new and interesting to talk about.

The girls grabbed their food and sat at their usual table which was already occupied by Liam who was munching away on his cereal.

“Morning girls,” he smiled cheerfully, making the girls smile in return.

“How come everyone is so cheery at this early hour?” Holly mumbled grumpily, taking a bite of her buttered toast.

“Because unlike you, we are used to it,” Abigail grinned, causing Holly to roll her eyes.

“How long have you been here?” Holly asked her new friends.

“Well my parents sent me here when I was sixteen and now I am nineteen so three years,” Liam replied.

“I only arrived here just over a year ago. But before I moved here I lived in London and I did scout training for almost five years,” Abigail told Holly.

“Hey guys!” Louis smiled as he joined the table, setting his tray of food down. “What are you talking about?”

“Holly wants to know long we have all been here,” Abigail said.

“Ah,” Louis nodded. “Well I lived in Doncaster until I was fourteen and as soon as I moved to Bradford my mother signed me up for this camp. I was around fifteen I think.”

“Wow, that’s so young,” Holly said.

“Not really,” Louis shrugged. “I’m only eighteen so I have only been here for a few years.”

“Lucy has been here the longest,” Liam told her. “Lucy is almost twenty and has lived in Bradford her whole life. On her fourteenth birthday her parents signed her up for the camp and even though you need to be fifteen to join, her parents were good friends with the Malik’s so she got in easy.”

“Where is Lucy?” Louis asked.

“She said something this morning about going to the office to add some extra training into her timetable,” Abigail answered.

“Jesus, that girl never stops,” Louis muttered in awe.

“Holly, let me see your timetable,” Liam said, holding out his hand.

Holly brushed the bread crumbs off her fingers and reached into her back pocket where her timetable was folded up from the day before. She handed it to Liam who scanned it quickly before smiling.

“We have training on the oval together after lunch,” he grinned, causing Holly to feel a bit more relaxed. “And I think you have training with Abigail and Louis this morning, I’m not sure.”

He handed the paper to Abigail who read it. “Nope,” she sighed. “That’s not our class. Looks like you’re on your own for the morning Holly!”

Holly groaned unhappily at the thought of not knowing anyone. Before she could say anything however, the shrill ring of the bell rang loudly. The scraping of chairs could be heard as everyone got up, ready to start the day.

“Do I have to?” Holly sulked.

“Yes, lazy,” Louis laughed, tugging her arm.

When Holly stood up, Louis linked her arm through his, trying to cheer her up. Holly laughed at Louis’ silly expression as they headed towards the door. As they stepped outside into the bright sunlight, Holly felt someone’s stare on her back. She turned around and saw Zayn glaring at her. She stared back before noticing that he wasn’t actually glaring at her, but rather at her arm that was entwined with Louis’.

Is Zayn jealous? Holly thought to herself before shaking her head. He couldn’t be, they had only known each other for a day. Holly turned back to Louis who continued to make her laugh as she shook all the thoughts of Zayn out of her head.

“Well your training is that way, and I have to go to the training centre so I’ll see you at lunch,” Louis smiled, letting go of Holly’s arm and walking off with Abigail.

Holly sighed to herself as she continued to walk in the direction Louis had pointed. She walked down a long dirt path with a few other students around her who she gathered were in her class. Finally the path ended and she spotted a man in uniform who was obviously her trainer for the morning.

“Everyone line up!” he yelled, pointing his arms in two straight lines.

Everyone quickly shuffled together to form two lines and Holly was trying to look around the fifteen or so other cadets for anyone she knew. She thought she recognised someone from her training from the previous day when she felt a tap on her shoulder.

“Holly Withers,” a voice she knew all too well said from behind her.

Holly spun around quickly and came face to face with the one person she had been trying to avoid.

Zayn Malik.
