“Zayn, what are you doing here?” Holly asked, her mouth open.
“The same thing as you sweetheart,” he smirked.
Holly’s heart quickened when she heard him say ‘sweetheart’ but she quickly controlled herself and blushed at her stupid question. Holly turned her back towards him and faced the front where her trainer was shouting out instructions.
“Get into pairs and do cross sit ups, go!” the trainer shouted.
Everyone immediately grabbed a partner and sat down, beginning the sit ups. Holly slowly turned around to ask Zayn if he wanted to partner up with her but was surprised to find he was already sitting on the ground, waiting for her. Holly sat down across from him, crossing her legs with his. She leant back as did he, and came back up. Holly sighed loudly.
“Tired already?” Zayn teased, trying to create a conversation quietly so the trainer wouldn’t hear.
“No,” Holly shot back. “I just can’t be bothered doing this.”
They both leant back down and came back up, completing another sit up.
“It’s only your second day here and you are already tired,” Zayn chuckled.
Before Holly could respond, Zayn bent back into another sit up.
“So what?” Holly questioned angrily, not in the mood to be joking around, especially after how upset she still was from the night before.
“Sorry,” Zayn mumbled, sensing Holly’s coldness.
“Malik! Withers! Less chatter, more sit ups!” the trainer demanded.
“Yes sir!” the pair yelled back in unison, before quickly finishing their set of sit ups.
The morning passed slowly for Holly and she knew it was because of the awkward silence between her and Zayn. She wanted to apologise for snapping but couldn’t find the right time too. By nine o’clock, Holly was exhausted. Her trainer dismissed everyone for a ten minute break and so Holly stumbled over to a nearby tree, sitting under its cool shade. She leant her head against the trunk and closed her eyes, hoping that when she opened them again, this nightmare would be over. A minuted passed by before Holly felt someone sit beside her, their leg brushing against hers.
“Wanna get out of here?” Zayn asked, nudging Holly with his elbow.
“What do you mean?” she said, opening one eye to peak at Zayn.
“Watch,” Zayn winked before sticking his hand in the air and waving over the trainer. “Sir, Holly forgot to collect some forms from the office this morning. Perhaps she would be able to go now?”
“Be quick, Withers,” the trainer nodded.
“But sir, Holly is new and she doesn’t know how to get to the office,” Zayn explained. “I could take her.”
“Very well, Malik. Go now.”
The trainer walked off and Zayn stood up, grabbing Holly’s arm and dragging her up with him.
“C’mon,” he grinned, jogging off in the direction of the cabins.
Holly followed, surprised at how easily Zayn had gotten both of them excused from training. But then again, she suspected he would be treated slightly better than the others because of his father. They continued to jog until they were out of sight from their group.
“Where are we going?” Holly asked, slowing down her pace to match Zayn’s.
Zayn just shrugged, keeping his head low. There was an awkward silence between them as they continued to walk towards the rows of cabins. Holly couldn’t handle the silence and she felt bad for snapping at Zayn earlier and so she spoke up.
