Shawn was at the graveyard holding a pairs of daisies and roses in his hands as he sat in front of his family grave stones. He glanced at the big grave stone that was conjointed with his Mom and Dad names it and where their was buried. The single grave stone beside them that his little sister's name it and where her dead body was buried. He was slient as he couldn't believe he lived 5 years without them. It felt like yesterday when his Little sister Aaliyah was making him do tea parties with her and hugging his mom and playing hockey with his dad.

It's been 5 years. That statement repeated his mind. 5 years ago, Shawn was happy. 5 years ago, Shawn had a family. 5 years ago, Shawn lost them. He wished he would've still had them. After the murder, he wasn't his self anymore. The younger boy felt like he lost half of his heart. At the funeral, Many of his family members were crying and screaming and praying. Shawn didn't do any of that, instead he stood slient as their bodies were getting low 6 feet under.

Yes, he was sad and hurt but he didn't wanna show it. He stayed quiet because that was the only way to cope with his lost and his greiving. Now, Shawn is 16, almost a full adult. He place the daisies on his sister's grave and the roses on his parents. Before leaving, he left a kiss on Aaliyah's Monument remembering that she kissed him on the forehead moments before passing away.

"Today we honor those who lost their lives tonight" The mayor announced in front of the people of the town who held up candles and pictures. "The Mendes were the most kind hearted and loving family we have ever gained in the community" He continued and that made Shawn tensed next to his Aunt. "Not only that they were Kind and loving but they did volunteer and help out with Town's Funds and many things, tonight, the 3 souls will be missed" The mayor glanced towards the crowd.

"Their son, Shawn mendes, The sole survivor, can you please come up here and share you memories of them with us" The mayor invited him to speak while everyone looked at his direction. Shawn didn't want to talk about his family nor he wanted to speak. Thinking about them was making him a bit emotinal so he ran out the park where the ceremony was held. All the younger boy wanted was to be alone. He heard A familiar voice behind him but he didn't stop until he sat down at a bench tired of running. He seen Taylor caught up shortly after him, out of breathe as he sat next to him. "Man you run fast" Taylor caught his breathe. He just shrugged as it wasn't a big deal.

"Why did you ran away back there?" He asked him and Shawn just looked down. "Shawn you need to tell me" the older boy thought it was the perfect time to talk to him. The younger just kept quiet. "What happened to you 5 years ago?" Taylor asked him as they both locked eye contact. "I-I-I lost my family" Taylor heard Shawn's soft quiet voice for the first time. Taylor eyes lit up seeing that Shawn takes for the first time and Shawn was surprised also because he hasn't heard his own voice since he was 11. "How did it happened?" Taylor asked him trying to make him feel comfortable by wrapping his hand around his. "This is what happened 5 years ago".

"Mom can you tell her to stop" 11 year old was annoyed with his little sister since she kept on saying, "I'm not touching you" with her finger close to him. Their mother stood quiet for a moment. "Lets go upstairs" They followed their mothers upstairs into their parents room and closed the door. "I need you two to stay in this room for me" she begin. "Me and daddy are just going to be downstairs, stay in here for your own safety" She  said quietly knowing that this was last times she was going to talk to her children. "Mommy your scaring me" Aaliyah sounded worried. "Don't be scared, I know Shawn will protect you" Karen smiled at Shawn as he did the same. "I love you guys so much" She placed a kiss on her kids foreheads. "Always stay together" A tear fall down her eyes as she closed the door.

Aaliyah started crying and Shawn took notice of that. "Why are you crying? Everything is going to be alright" He was trying to comfort her. It's hadn't been 15 seconds and they started hearing multiple gun shots in the house. That made Shawn heart rate go up. "Shawn what is that?" His little sister started crying. "Nothing it's nothing ummm we just going to be in here for awhile" Shawn didn't wanna think it was like gunshots in the video games. "Can we go to my room? I don't wanna sleep in here tonight" She didn't know that it was going to be her last night alive. He was a little hesitant but nodded opening the door with gun shots still echoing the air.

The two siblings ran across the hall into Aaliyah room until they were unlucky because Shawn gotten wounded in the arm. He fall onto the ground since he felt a burn and pulsation. Aaliyah looked back noticing her brother was on the ground. "Shawn you have to get up" She said to him in panic because gun shots were still getting passed on. Shawn was on the verge of fainting from the shot. "Shawn, come on I need you" His little sister started lifting him up and dragging him in the room while closing and locking the door behind them. Aaliyah grabbed her new scarf off her dresser and tied it around her brother's wound which she thought that could help stop the bleeding.

The gun shots had stopped which had made Aaliyah little Less scared. Shawn was awake but barely couldn't keep his eyes open. Aaliyah heard foot steps creaks on the ground and knew the attack wasn't over. She knew what she had to do, she opened her closet door and lift her brother one last time Into the closet and kissed his forehead before closing the closet door shut. She heard the door knob clicking knowing that someone was about to come in. The 8 year old girl knew she was going to get hurt somehow but she didn't care or was in fear anymore, she was doing this to protect her brother and she will do it even if it means death.

Shawn remembered seeing the door open which reveal a stranger with a black mask on and had on all black clothing and was attacking his sister. He wasn't sure what was going on since his vision was blurry and his left arm was bleeding. The younger boy remembered his sister screaming and kicking. He wanted to help her but his body couldn't get up from lack of blood lost in his arm."let her go" he whispered but it was too late. The stranger pulled the bloody knife back in his pocket that they just stabbed Aaliyah with and who was laying on the floor with bloody chest and a lifeless body. The stranger knew their was another kid in the room but they knew the police was coming soon.

"I know there is another person in this room" Shawn could hear that the voice belong to a female. "Just know we will be back for you one day" The stranger made a little laugh at the end and left through the window. Shawn feared for his life but knew they wouldn't find him. He forced himself to stand up slowly and he did. He opened the closet door with struggle since half of his body was numb. He walked towards his sister and seen her dead body laying on the ground with a pool of blood. He went to into shock as he bend down and cried. He laid down on ground next to her and started crying saying, "no no no this isn't real". He touched her and she felt cold and plastic.

He started sobbing more wishing he could've saved her but at the end of the day she saved him.
