Blaise's POV
I ducked into the Potions classroom and took the first empty desk I saw. I breathed a sigh of relief. If I was late another time Slughorn would've ripped my head off.
Not a minute later, Ginny and Hermione walked in. I watched as they scanned the empty seats, including the one next to me.
My heart began to pulsate fast at realisation of the situation. I wanted to stand up and shout out an invitation for her to come sit with me.
Hey! I kicked myself. Easy, boy. You're not that desperate.
It was then that Ginny's eyes threaded with mine. I smiled softly, waving a small wave. To my surprise she smiled and waved back. Right here, in a room full of Gryffindors and Slytherins.
As if our worlds weren't that far apart after all.
My smile grew into a grin.
"Ms. Granger, Ms. Weasley," Slughorn announced, up at the front. "Please, take your seats."
Ginny's gaze locked on the seat beside me. It happened quickly, as if she were considering it, but Hermione called to her and she ended up sitting on a separate desk with Hermione.
My heart sank as I watched her. A minute later I was still watching her.
Blaise, you idiot. Are you serious? I snapped my attention firmly back to Slughorn, but I already had no idea what he was talking about.
You hardly even spoke to this girl before the War. You know nothing about her.
So what if you had a few moments. In the locker room, the Library? They're just moments.
She is dating the freaking Boy Who Lived.
"Partners, now!" Slughorn called out, drawing my attention back to the board as he began scribbling down girls' and boys' names in pairs.
I drew back, surprised, when I saw that I was partnered with Ginny.
The classroom was full of chatter as they started switching seats. I watched Ginny with curious eyes, waiting for her to come over but she didn't. Just sat there, watching me with the same expectancy.
My eyebrows quirked. I made a gesture for her to sit next to me. She shook her head, mischievous, making the same gesture to the seat beside her.
I shook my head, making her raise an eyebrow. We did more motions like this across the classroom. Finally I gave in, standing up and walking over.
"I win," Ginny told me smugly as I sat down next to her.
"Congratulations," I said, sarcasm dripping from my voice. "When's the Awards Ceremony?"
We turned to Slughorn as he began talking about the potion we were brewing. I tried to keep my focus on him, but I couldn't help stealing glances at Ginny. Her eyes were glued to the board behind Slughorn, but I sensed that her mind was elsewhere.
She looks so calm and composed, I thought, before smirking. Unlike that day at the Library, as she tired to work up the courage to apologise to me.
Feeling like a stalker, I snapped my gaze quickly back to the board. But a minute later I had to glance back at her.
She was already studying me.
I felt every fibre in my body burning, but made sure that none of my nerves made it to the surface. Instead, I waited to see what her reaction to our locked gaze would be. Her cheeks tinted, stunned that I had caught her, but she made no move to look away.
