Ginny's POV

"I can't believe McGonagall is giving us these long-ass assignments at the beginning of the year," Ron grumbled next to me, as we walked to class.

From Ron's other side, Hermione rolled her eyes.

"This is the reward we get for saving the world? For being the humble heroes?"

"For a humble hero, you sure have a knack of thinking we get an unfair advantage to everything," Hermione snapped at him. "Ron, rules still apply to us."

"But we're the Golden Trio!" Ron exclaimed, face overwhelmed with disbelief. "Did I mention we saved the freaking world? Defeated Voldemort, the Dark Lord? Helloooo people? I'm still waiting for my medal."

Hermione stared at him, "Ron!"

"What?"

"Harry defeated Voldemort, not us.  Get out of your head, you big oaf!"

"I'm just saying, we had a hand in helping."

"Ginny, help me out here!" Hermione exclaimed, bending over to shoot me a look.

But I wasn't paying attention.  My eyes had suddenly glued to a figure across the hall as we made our way towards him.  His back was facing me, but he was recognisable to me anywhere.

Blaise Zabini.

"...Ginny?" Hermione's puzzled voice had me snapping back into the conversation.

"Yeah?" I said, trying to look alert.

"What's wrong with you?" Ron blurted at me.  Hermione slapped him on the shoulder at this. He yelped in pain.

"Merlin's Beard, woman!" He shouted. "Just give me a break, will you?"

"Don't talk to your sister that way!"

"I'm just asking what's going on with her!"

"No, that's not what you said! You used the term wrong, which is totally derogatory!"

"I don't even know what the hell that means!"

"Hermione, it's okay," I said, starting to smile as I saw people from all for corners of the earth staring at us. "Hermione, I'm fine."

"No, you're not," Hermione pushed, and went back to bickering. Sometimes I wondered if she argued with him on purpose.

I turned away from the couple next to me, suddenly alert. I searched for Blaise again and found him quickly behind us, standing to the side with Theodore Nott and one of the Greengrass sisters.  He was laughing at something the two of them said.

Suddenly, he swerved around and looked at me.  His face was smiling, but it dropped quickly when he saw me.

He turned back around and said something to Nott and Greengrass.

They followed him into the classroom.

Blaise. I just wanted to say I'm

I crossed the sentence out before I could reach halfway.  Tipping my quill with more ink, I started writing on a clean sheet of parchment.

Dear Blaise

That's so formal.  I put down the quill and ripped off the top half of the parchment to get rid of the greeting, realising too late that it was a mistake.  Not only did I waste one third of paper, but now I didn't have enough to write my letter.
