Chapter 2 "You Were My Favorite"

Asuka's POV
   "Kaneki-kun, Rize-chan, are you guys excited?!" I practically yelled.
   "Asuka-chan, calm down, it's not even your birthday. I bet during the party, you'll be more excited than Hide." Rize laughed and pat me on the head.
   "How can you not be excited? This is going to be the best birthday party we've every thrown him!"
   "Asuka, this is the only birthday party we've ever thrown him..." Rize sweatdropped.
   "Hey Rize," Kaneki said while looking out the window for Hide, "why were you so late?"
   "Late?" Rize said.
   "Yeah, you were pretty late. In fact, you're always late. You never make it to our little get-togethers on time." Kaneki looked at Rize questioningly.
   "I have things to do. Personal things. I'd rather not talk about them now." Rize responded then turned away.
   Things have been really...tense between Rize and Kaneki. It's very strange. I've asked both of them about it, but Rize just finds a random excuse to change the subject and Kaneki just says the same thing over and over. He tells me that she's a little strange, and I would agree. I've seen Rize do very...weird things. One time I was doing laundry at her house and saw blood on her clothes. She said it was a stain from something else, but I swear it was blood. Sometimes, I would catch her...sniffing me. I always thought it was some weird fetish. Also, everytime I slept over at her house, she would go out for "late night snacks". She did that even night. It's obvious she has a secret, but I don't know what it is...
   "Guys, he's coming!" Kaneki yelled out.
   "Everyone hide!" Rize said, and we all hid in different places. I was hiding in a box because why not? I heard the door start to unlock and started to get excited. This is it! This is going to be the start of a great partyyy!
   The door opened and Hide came inside.
   "SURPRISE!!!!!" Kaneki, Rize, and I jumped from our hiding spots. I waited to Hide to smile, but he wasn't. He was doing the exact opposite. He was...crying? Not crying...he was sobbing.
   "Hide?! Are you okay? What happened?!" Kaneki asked and quickly walked over to Hide. I saw the concern and a little surprise in his face. We've never seen Hide cry before...at least...not like this.
   "Hide? Is everything okay?" I asked. I slowly went over to him, but he didn't say anything. Kaneki had his hand on Hide's shoulder.
   "Hide...please say something..." Kaneki begged.
   "R..." Hide stopped sobbing and sniffed.
   "R...?" Kaneki said confused.
   "Rize..." Hide said again, except a little louder...and angrier. "You killed them...you killed them!" Hide pushed Kaneki away and pointed at Rize. He had a crazy look on his face.
   "You killed them Rize! You monster!" He growled and then suddenly grabbed my sleeve and pulled me away from her.
   "H-hide?! What are you talking about?!" Kaneki tried to turn Hide around to face him.
   "You guys have to leave! She's dangerous!" He screamed and tried to grab me and Kaneki and push out the door.
   "H-hide, stop! What the heck is wrong with you?" I turned and freed myself from Hide's hands. "What do you mean Rize is dangerous?! What are you saying?!"
   "Haha...Asuka-chan...you're so oblivious..." Rize said quietly. "I can't believe you haven't figured it out." Rize started to laugh, but not a regular laugh, a maniacal laugh.
   "R-rize, what are you talking about?" Kaneki said with fear in his voice.
   "She's one of them..." Hide hissed. "She's a ghoul. She killed my parents!" Hide yelled at Rize. "You disgusting freak!!"
   "N-no...I don't believe it..." Kaneki said quietly. "Rize...a ghoul...?"
   I stood silently. I was in shock. Rize...a ghoul...h-how...how did I not notice. The stains...the snacks...the sniffing...not being able to make it on time...they were all clues that I missed.
   "It's a shame...I didn't want you guys to find out this way, but oh well..." Rize laughed again. While she was laughing, large, crimson red tentacles exploded out of her back. I shivered and tried to move my body, but I couldn't. I was petrified.
   She started to walk towards me slowly. Hide jumped in front of me and Kaneki to protect us.
   "Wow, aren't you a hero? Going to save your delicious friends, aren't you. Haha...pathetic." Rize raised one of her tentacles and slammed one into Hide's side, sendimg him into a wall. He stayed there for a while, and slid down to the floor. He was motionless. H-hide...?
    "Hide!!" Kaneki screamed and tried to run to Hide, but Rize stabbed him right through the stomach with a tentacle. Kaneki coughed up blood.
   "A-asuka," he coughed, "r-run..." He coughed up more blood, then went limp. K-kaneki...not you too...
   "Hahaha...it's a shame Asuka-chan...you were my favorite." After she said this, Rize raises a not honer tentacle. I wanted to run, but I was still frozen. Then it started to come down. Straight towards me. I couldn't dodge it.

Hi guys!!! I finally finished this chapter! I thought I did pretty good! Tell me what you guys think! Usually for the chapter names, I used the line towards the very end of the chapter, but I wanted to changed it up a bit. Also, I know the plot is developing a little slow, but it'll get better!
