A Couple Days Later

The chimes on the doors chimed and in walked Aug. "Heeeeeeeeey August." The ladies in the shop said in a sing-song voice.

"Wassam ladies. How y'all doin'?"

Every woman in the shop answered at one time which caused Aug to smile widely. "Y'all in he'a lookin' all beautiful."

I watched Maya walk to him just to tap him on his shoulder. "What you here fa'?" She asked.

"Hello ta' ya' too Maya. How ya' been?" He said sarcastically.

"Blessed and Highly favored, Aug. And you?"

He laughed, "I can't complain. Whe'a my gal'friends at?"

She walked in a circle around Aug, "I don't know. I don't see her." She said sarcastically with the biggest smile on her face.

He smacked his teeth, "Man—"

"I'm just playing, damn." She laughed, "They back there." She pointed to me & Chandra.

He spoke once again before kissing Cha's cheek, then coming over to my chair.

"Who you textin'?" He asked Jade.

"Damn. Business! Get you some." She flipped her phone over.

"Yea' whateva'! I just kno' it betta' not be one'a 'dese nappy headed la'boys walkin' roun' he'a."

She laughed and flipped her phone back over.

"Mornin' mama." He whispered in my ear. Then kissed my cheek. I slightly rolled my eyes.

"Who 'dem from?" He asked pointing at the flowers from yesterday.

"August, don't play."

"What'chu mean? Is it a crime fa' a nigga' ta' ask a question?"

"You play too much. You know where they came from."

He frowned, "I swe'a I don't."

"Stop playing. You sent the flowers Aug."

He smacked his teeth, "I ain' send no flowa's"

"In all honesty?"

"On my daddy grave I ain' send no flowa's."

"Oh! What about that man from the club?" Yaya interrupted.

"What man?" I asked. Aug sat down in my chair.

"The one that was trying to take her home that night?" Jade asked.

"Oh... Dre" It would be weird if he was the one that sent the flowers. I've never seen or held a conversation with him outside of the photoshoot and the club.

"Who 'dat is?" Aug asked as he turned around to face me in the chair.

"The photographer from the other day."
