The Doctor heard a voice, saying his name. At first it was slightly out of focus, and the Doctor's ears were ringing, but the voice sounded a little menacing. However, after a few moments, it merged into a familiar voice: Black Mist.
The Doctor slowly opened his eyes. He was lying on the floor of Derpy's kitchen. The first thing he saw was Mist taking a step back, a look of shock on his face.
"What's wrong?" the Doctor asked, standing up. His head still hurt a little.
"You're eyes," Mist said, sounding far away, as if he was recalling a long forgotten memory. "Your eyes were... different."
"What?" the Doctor questioned.
"Nothing," Mist said. He shook his head and rubbed his face with his hoof. "I'm probably just seeing things."
The Doctor looked at Mist for a second, then turned to look at Dinky, then Sparkler, then Derpy. "What happened?" he asked her.
"I'm not sure," she replied, her voice full of worry. "You said something about your ear hurting, and then you just collapsed."
"That's strange," Mist said. "I felt that same ear pain, and my mental link went fuzzy..." His voice trailed off.
"What does it mean, Mist?" Derpy asked.
"I'm not sure," Mist answered. "But there's definitely something wrong."
"How long was I out?" the Doctor asked him.
"A few minutes," Mist replied. "Not too long."
Just then, the Doctor's headache got worse. He brought his hoof up to his temple and groaned.
"We should take him to see Doctor Horse," Derpy said.
"Agreed," Mist replied.

The Doctor, Derpy, Black Mist, and Fluttershy were in the hospital waiting room, impatiently awaiting to hear Doctor Horse's conclusion. Fluttershy had arrived at Derpy's just as the others were leaving, and Sparkler was watching Dinky back at the house.
Finally, Nurse Redheart, one of the nurses that worked at the hospital, entered the waiting room. She walked up to the group and said, "Sorry that Doctor Horse couldn't come out, he had an emergency to attend to."
"So what's wrong with me?" the Doctor asked.
"Well, Mister Turner," Redheart replied. "We couldn't find anything."
"What do you mean?" Mist asked.
"We couldn't find any problems with him," the Nurse answered. "He's perfectly healthy. Now, if you would excuse me, I have other patients I need to attend to."
As the nurse walked away, Mist whispered, "That can't be right."
"Well," the Doctor said. "If it's any consolation, my head doesn't hurt anymore."
"But our mental link is still broken." Mist said. "That's never happened before, at least not without me actually breaking it myself."
"I'm sure we'll figure it out," Fluttershy said, putting a hoof on Mist's shoulder.
"Yeah," Mist whispered. "I hope so."
