I pushed the button to Riley's apartment.
"Who is it?" Mr Matthews asked.
"Maya."
"Oh, come on up." He buzzed me in.
I went up and knocked on the door.
"Hey, Maya." Mrs Matthews opened the door for me.
"Hey." I greeted back.
"You finally noticed that we have a door, huh?" I smiled at the question.
"Uh, is she home?"
"Yeah, she's in her room."
"Okay.
I walked to Riley's room and knocked on her door.
"Maya?" Riley opened the door.
"Hey, can we talk?"
"Sure." She opened the door wider so I can come in. We sat on the bay window.
"So, you wanna talk to me?" Riley asked.
"I don't know. I think I do."
"Maya, we have always been able to talk to each other."
"Why did you think I'd do something bad with Thor? You know the rumors about me and him at the hotel."
"Maya.."
"You actually think I'm that kinda girl?"
"I don't know what to think." Riley looked sad.
"Okay." I smiled. "Well, we didn't do anything. We did go to a hotel. His dad's hotel. To eat dinner on the rooftop patio. That's it." I stood up.
"Wait, Maya!"
"What?"
"You said you wanna talk."
"I just did."
"But.."
"I just wanna clarify the rumors."
"Are you mad? At me?"
"Why would I be mad at you?"
"I don't know."
"And that's why I'm not mad. You don't know that you hurt me, Riles. And I'm tired of being angry."
"Okay, then tell me. Why are you mad at me?"
"You didn't trust me. And you didn't stand by me. We've had this fight before. And I don't wanna do it again. It's exhausting being mad at you."
"Then don't. I don't wanna be mad at you either."
"Why would you be mad at me?"
"Lucas.. told me he likes you."
