Chapter 33 (Almost) Losing a Child

It was a normal day however Anna has been acting extremely withdrawn around her siblings including Möiük who she has grown accustomed to. However, once the twins turned 14, Anna hated being in the same room as Kara so they had different rooms. Little did I know what was in store for me. Lucania's kids Hugo and Luka were 5 years younger than the girls. Anna refuses to spend some time with us. Her hair was cut to a tomboyish style, but Kara has hers long tied to a side pony-tail. The two grown up so much but I'm already 59 and Sakine is already 34 she has a son named Sami he's only 6. Sakine is planning on having another child.

We were all at the dinner table it was just Anna, Kara, Mike and I. Meito was in college and dating a girl named Johanna. I take a look at Anna, she looked as if she was just skin and bone, her face was flushed. Kara asked Anna if she was alright because she looked a little depressed.

"Papà do you like your job?" Kara asked.

"Yeah it's been great how are you two enjoying your summer?" Mike asked.

"It's been alright. Hey Anna what do you think about it?" Kara says.

"It's alright." Anna says nodding off.

Something felt off about Anna because she seemed withdrawn from all of us. She looked like she was about to pass out; her plate was barely filled. I was wondering if she was okay because her eating habits have been off this past year. Kara was talking to Mike who had his plate filled with pasta and eating small bites. Anna excuses herself from the table but her new speech seemed off as if she was intoxicated.

"Anna you're going to bed early?"

"Yeauh" Anna says.

We all continued to eat, Kara puts Anna's plate away in the sink. We spoke for a while and Mike brought out the gelato that was still in the freezer. Anna stopped staying at the table for too long. Kara would frequently check up on her but she would be shut out by Anna.

"Papà I think Anna has been acting off lately. There are times at school she would do everything to avoid me." Kara says.

"I noticed it too but there's nothing we could do about it. She's probably going through a phase and just being a teenager. Anna's fine." Mike tells her.

The following morning our family came over. Käis, Aitök and the others were here. Anna was still asleep and we woke her up only for her to get ready. It's 80 degrees outside and she's wearing a long sleeved shirt and sweatpants. Meito arrived and was with his girlfriend Johanna. She was a slim German girl who had a slight tan, medium blonde hair, and blue eyes. Johanna was a strong woman who seemed fond of Meito; she was 21 just like him.

"Oh, okaasan this is Johanna the girl I was talking about." Meito tells me.

"Well she looks perfect Meito, I'm happy that you are finally becoming a man. So how did you two meet?" I said.

"Coffee shop at our college." Meito says.

"So Meito is okaasan, Italian?" Johanna asked.

"Japanese, she's from Japan." Meito says.

"I never would have guessed that, so I'm assuming people would think she was American." Johanna says.

"Yeah people would often think she's Italian even though I could tell by her tan she isn't." Meito says.

"It was nice meeting your mother, should I be afraid of your father?" Johanna asked.

"You shouldn't he's not a bad person, at first glance he looks like a mobster but he's actually a caring person once you know him better." Meito tells her.
