"It's time to get our party on!" Avery squeals eagerly, skipping into her house and beckoning for Elise and me to follow. I fight a smile from forming on my face at how strangely peppy she seems.

We decided that my house wouldn't be the best place to prepare for the party, knowing the boys would be making a ruckus downstairs and would only desire for us to be out of their way. Also, Elise tends to freeze up around The Pineapples and Peyton doesn't like shy girls. Avery's feud with Logan wouldn't help matters either.

Luckily, I was wise enough to pick out my party outfit before I left for school this morning which, by the way, wasn't very eventful. Obviously, Elise demanded to know what occurred with Kade. I didn't have a nice way to tell her how Kade reacted, so I fibbed by saying I didn't have a chance to speak to him yet. I then hinted that she should make a move at the party. Her reaction was the same, uncertain and anxious.

Maybe Avery will slip something into her drink to give her a little boost of confidence.

As for Kade, he completely ignored me in Calculus. I was perfectly fine with the silence between us, as it gave me more time to complete my homework so I don't have extra problems to solve over the weekend. Although, some part of me ached to blurt out nonsense explanations to Kade so everything could go back to how it was. I frowned at myself internally as the urge suddenly overcame me. It's not we exchanged more than nods of acknowledgement or murmured hellos if we ever noticed each other.

I snap out of my thoughts when I notice Elise snapping her fingers in front of my face, and amused smile tugging at the edges of her lips, "Is Parker Reynolds possibly in there somewhere?"

I blink, "Sorry, I was caught up in thoughts."

She giggles, "I can tell. What's on your mind, silly?"

"Just school," I lie, cursing silently when I realize how ridiculous of a lie that is.

"Since when do you care about school?" Avery asks, pausing from riffling through her closet to narrow her eyes at me.

"Lately I've been having this strong urge to be a better person," I say with fake determination, sarcasm dripping from my words, "I want to be a role model for those around me by working hard in school, pepping myself up by smiling more, and being a well-rounded person overall."

Elise gasps dramatically, an expression of sheer joy coming across her features, "Really? It's about time you started smiling more!"

"She was being sarcastic," Avery deadpans, rolling her eyes. I think she mutters something to herself, but I don't quite catch it.

"Oh," is the only word that exits Elise's mouth, her shoulders slumping in defeat.

"Yeah, that sounds like a lot of work," I say, taking a seat in Avery's desk chair so I can examine my nails while I spin.
