It was a quiet Sunday evening. Inside a girl's flat a calming candle was lit.Eunbin took a small bowl of kimchi from the fridge. On the table she already prepared a simple bibimbap in a large bowl. "I'm running out of gochujang..." she sighed.
She hesitated first on the thought of asking gochujang to her neighbours. Hunger won, eventually. She walked outside her flat and started walking toward her flat's left side, her only neighbour on that floor. It was a small building with cheap rents yet nobody actually cared who lived next to their doors. Eunbin lived there since her first year of college and never once bothered who her neighbour was. She only once got helped by ahjumma down her flat when she was the only resident on her floor. This new next door's neighbour was somehow as quiet as her. She had a hunch that her neighbour was the girl she saw few days ago, as Eunbin saw the flat number on her keys. It was an old style flats that still used keys instead the automated card ones, as the building even only had stairs to reach each floors.
The door was knocked a few times with no response. She waited another five minutes in front of her neighbour's flat. "She's probably sleeping. The lights are not out yet, though."
Disappointed, she walked back home and enjoyed her tasteless bibimbap. "Thank God I still have this kimchi," she said while eyeing the kimchi deeply.
Then her phone rang. She quickly ran to get her phone, knowing the familiar ring tone. "What is it now?"
"Eunbinnieee I got myself a blind date tomorrow! My friend's friend said there will be older guys and other campus' good looking ones!! So excited!"
"....and you're calling me for?" Eunbin scooped another bibimbap to her mouth.
"I'm saying you should date! At this rate I don't know if you and Inhae are still together or not. Me, a wise Yoo Yeeun, say that you should at least be a normal girl in a relationship."
Eunbin sighed. "I'm fine with how I do in my relationship and no, Yeeun, you're not a wise person." She finished her bibimbap and threw it inside her kitchen sink. "Besides, who does blinddating 10 times within a month like you?"
Yeeun just laughed to excuse herself. "Well, that's my hobby. Not my fault that I have high standards. Men are different these days, Binnie..."
"Don't call me that, please." Eunbin cut her words.
"Why certain girls have no aegyo?? People might think you're a guy trapped in a girl's body."
"Then it can't be helped." She gulped down a glass of water. "Anything else to share?"
"The project! Right, the project. I haven't finished my part yet, I still have difficulties to mix the colour. Can you help me out?"
"Sure. But didn't the tutor say tomorrow they will check the progressed work? Will you have enough time?"
Eunbin could hear Yeeun screaming across the line. "I can do this. Just come early, okay?"
"Okay." Eunbin hung up the phone.
[Monday noon]
"You will not be able to leave the studio until I can score your work. If you leave it as it is, then you will have to retake the subject next year as all of the tasks are connected. You don't finish this then you can't take the next task, Yoo Yeeun—ssi. That's final."
Yeeun calculated it wrong. It wasn't the tutor that came into the studio but the professor herself. She couldn't say anything but nod to the professor's words. She then left the studio.
