'You look beautiful'

We walked back to my apartment in a comfortable silence, carrying out surf boards. Butterflies danced around my stomach and my heart beat that little bit slower. The feelings I felt for Jesse were more intense than anything I had experienced before. When I was with him I felt alive, a sensation which had been lost these past few months. We'd become so close and I was ready to take things to the next level but I just didn't know how to. Was it too soon? I'd only known him a matter of weeks and I was still getting over a messy breakup. My mind was a muddle.

'We're here' commented Jesse, breaking the silence and pulling me from my thoughts. I looked up to see my apartment building in front of us. He checked his watch before telling me that he'd come back to collect me in an hour, giving me more than enough time to get changed. We went our separate ways, a small sense of sadness running through me that I had to leave him even though he'd be back so soon. Slowly, I made my way up to my apartment to get ready. I had no idea what to wear.

I'm pretty sure that I tried on about 30 outfits before discounting each one. Some were too dressy, some not dressy enough. Some were too bright and some were just downright disgusting. I sighed heavily as I threw the last outfit onto the 'no' pile and threw myself down on the floor amongst the clothes. I had come to the conclusion that I had nothing to wear and I would have to make do with a bin bag for an outfit when there was a knock at the door. I grabbed my dressing gown and went to answer it. I pulled the door open to reveal Jesse standing outside in a white shirt and a pair of jeans. The first thing I noticed was his amazing abs that were just visible through the shirt. The second thing I noticed was how he was completely dressed and ready whereas I looked like I was going to bed. That hour had gone very quickly.
'Oh, hey Jesse' I said nervously. He looked me up and down before bursting into laughter, much to my surprise. I stood puzzling his laughter for a moment until he finally spluttered 'you're going out dressed like that?' before exploding into another fit of laughter. I simply sighed  patronisingly in reply before walking back towards my bedroom, leaving the front door open to let the (very attractive) giggling mess in.

I took one last look in my wardrobe in the pure hope that a miracle may have happened and a beautiful outfit had appeared in there. Just as I'd predicted, it hadn't but as I had a frantic rummage through the mess of clothes that I had created, it all came together. I grabbed my blue playsuit and some black tights, quickly got dressed, grabbed my black shoes and my makeup before heading into the lounge to see Jesse.
'Recovered have we?' I said to him as I saw him sitting on the sofa, my voice laced with sarcasm.
'Got dressed have we?' He playfully snapped back almost immediately, imitating my accent. I was surprised by the quickness of his wit. I gave him a cheeky glare before sitting down to do my makeup.

Fifteen minutes later, I looked somewhat presentable. My makeup had been refreshed and I'd pulled my hair into a high ponytail. I looked up from my mirror to see Jesse rifling through my kitchen cupboards and making an awful mess of it in the process.
'What on earth are you doing?' I asked as I glanced at the disarray he had caused.
'Oh, I'm hungry,' he replied carelessly before going back to rooting round the cupboards. I sighed dramatically before going over to the kitchen area, shutting all the cupboards and offering to make him a snack. He agreed so I sent him off to sit on the sofa in the hope it would prevent him from creating even more destruction. I made us a sandwich and we settled down to eat, once again falling into a comfortable silence.

Once we had both finished, I grabbed my bag and slipped on my heels whilst Jesse cleared the plates away. He turned round, looked at me and whispered, 'you look beautiful'. My heart melted. He walked towards me slowly, held out his hand and I took it gently. We never broke eye contact and in that moment, I was happier than I had been for a long time. We went out the door and made our way to the bar. It was going to be a great night...
