A surf and a plan

I looked at my phone to see that it was only 12:30. The day was far from over so I knew I had to make the most of it. The weather outside was lovely, especially as it was only early August. Quickly, I grabbed my wetsuit and surfboard and called Jesse to see where he was. He had told me last night that it was his day off today so I was hoping he'd come for a surf with me. After two rings, he picked up.
'Skye, what's up?!' He said in his usual, easy tone.
'Do ya wanna come for a surf? I've finished my induction and I'm bored!' I told him.
'Yeah, sure' he answered happily, 'I'll meet you at Tama in half an hour' With that, he said goodbye and ended the call. I grinned excitedly before grabbing my stuff and heading out the door. It was then that I realised I hadn't a clue how to get to Tama. My stomach swirled with worry but I took a deep breath and assured myself that I'd be ok. I set off in the direction of Bondi beach and figured that I could probably find my way from there.

It turned out that I wasn't quite as good at navigating as if first thought. But twenty five minutes and a panicky phone call to Jesse later, I had finally found my way to Tama. As I walked onto the beach, I took in the sheer beauty of it. It was a tiny little cove with a beautiful beach and cliffs either side. I could quite easily picture myself spending a lot of time here. My bare feet hit the sand and I instantly relaxed at the feeling of the soft grains lacing themselves through my toes. I saw Jesse already out in the the waves and I raced down the sand to join him, throwing my bag onto the ground as I ran.

The feeling of the waves lapping around my board put me into my little bubble of surfing. I was in a complete daydream when I heard to splash of water and heard someone paddle up beside me.
'Beautiful isn't it?' Jesse said softly as he looked out over the open expanse of water.
'I love it,' I replied, 'I'm so glad I came here.' We fell into a moment of silence, staring into each others eyes. Electricity crackled between us. Suddenly, Jesse whooped with excitement as the wave of the day appeared, shattering the chemistry.
We both turned to face the beach and began to paddle. It was the perfect wave and we rode it all the way into the shore. I looked at him with a huge smile spread across my face before paddling back out, desperate for more.

An hour later and we were on our last wave of the day. We caught one in together before walking up the beach and sitting down. I sighed deeply. It had been the perfect afternoon. Jesse put his arm round me softly before asking me how my first day was.
'It was good,' I answered, 'I didn't do much but it was nice to get settled in, I have my first shift in two days time.' With that, he thought for a second before smiling and jumping up.
'If you've not got work tomorrow, we're going out tonight!' He said as he grabbed my hand to pull me up. A smile spread itself across my face as I stood up and looked at him.
'I'd love to Jesse!' I said enthusiastically, 'after all, I ruined it last time.' A serious look spread itself across his face and he grabbed my hand.
'No Skye, you did not spoil it. I can't have you thinking like that, it wasn't your fault. We will go out tonight and have a great time, Ok? I know clubs probably aren't your things so we'll go to a few good bars and have a brilliant evening.' I smiled gratefully and we began to walk up the beach hand in hand. We reached the small lifeguard tower and Jesse told me we could get changed out of our wetsuits in the changing room. I went in and changed out of my wetsuit and into the leggings and t-shirt I'd been wearing earlier. I met Jesse outside and as he looked at me, he did a double take.
'Aren't you cold?' He exclaimed as he shivered and did his coat up further, 'you've only got a t-shirt on, it's the middle of August!!' I laughed as I pointed out the fact that I was in fact English and his idea of cold weather was England's version of summer. He simply replied with, 'bloody poms' before we made our way back to Bondi.

I guess that news travels quickly, especially amongst lifeguards as in the short walk we took, we were bombarded with texts from everyone about the night out. It turned out that practically the whole lifeguard service was joining us. Still, the more the merrier and I definitely planned on getting merry. It had been ages since I'd had a proper night out so I was more than ready to let my hair down.
