Clarke's PoV:
It had been too long. We'd been sat in the meeting chamber for half an hour with no trace of Lincoln, Octavia or Murphy.
"They'll be fine," Lexa tried to reassure me, but her voice was shaky. She didn't believe herself.
"Can't one of you text them?" Bellamy pleaded.
"You could just text Octavia," Lexa pointed out.
"We're not allowed phones when we're in Arkadia," Bellamy shot back at her.
"Bellamy calm down, she didn't know that," I said, defending her. She gave me a small smile, but looked sad that she'd made a bad impression on Bellamy.
"I'm sure everything is fine," I said, cutting the scene. "This island isn't that big anyway, it's the size of England. Transport systems are monitored by Mount Weather right?"
Lexa nodded, looking at me weirdly.
"So, the government of each city has contact with the Mountains," I said. They were all looking at me strangely now. "Lexa, you are the government of Polis!" I looked at her.
"I'm not, Clarke!" Lexa protested. "I never officially took the job! Polis may like to believe I did and Arkadia might think I did too, but Mount Weather knows I'm not in control!"
"Then who is?" I demanded. Lexa had control everywhere in this town, and I'm sure she had influence in the whole city too.
"Nobody," Lexa looked at me meekly. "Mount Weather want to wipe us out. We don't have a leader, or a set government system. Nobody from the Mountains can gain access to anything here, and they've said unless we choose a leader, they'll start to take us out. Use our land for their own uses. You know the Mountains only has Mount Weather University and the Mount Weather governments with a few houses for students and government officials. They want to expand. And at the moment we're a great opportunity for that..."
"Lexa," I looked her in the eye, suddenly forgetting about Octavia, Murphy and Lincoln, "take the job. You don't know what the Mountains are capable of. They basically have control of the whole island. They won't just wipe you out, they'll destroy the land."
"I can't," Lexa said, trying to be firm, but her voice was shaky.
"Then I'll be Commander," I glared at her now.

The was a sudden silence.

"What did you say?" Lexa hissed, her eyes narrowing, piercing into my skin.
I momentarily felt intimidated, before I remembered what Ontari said to me.
"I said I'll become Commander," I glared back at her with equal force. There was a sudden icy tension in the room.
"You?" Lexa laughed. "You're Arkadia. I bet you were sent here to try and take over. God, you're with the Mountains aren't you? Arkadia has always had close connection with them. Octavia and Murphy? Where have they taken my people?" She spat at me.
"LEXA!" I yelled. "You know that isn't true! Octavia and Murphy haven't taken you're people anywhere! And we are not with the Mountains!"
"Oh yeah?" Lexa folded her arms and looked me up and down. "Yet here you are. You've appeared out of nowhere with some pathetic story which is probably bullshit, you've tried to take over multiple times, you've caused my people to risk their lives for you. I can't believe I trusted you."
"Lexa," Indra suddenly stood up, pausing us both. "Your story seems probable, but do you honestly believe it? Because I for one do not."
Lexa looked furious now.
"So you're with them too?" She glared at Indra. "That's it, I'm done."
She turned around and walked out towards the school.

Lexa's PoV:
How dare she. Clarke become Commander? It was outrageous. There was no way. I was in charge here. Granted, some may argue it was my fault for not taking the position, but I was advised not to. All the Commanders get assassinated. Was that why I was so angry at Clarke for asking? Because I didn't want her dead? Was I angry at her for trying to get herself killed? It's true I've grown to like her, and I most certainly don't want her dead. Was that really the reason? What had I gotten myself into? I can't go through another Costia. But now Clarke thought she was better than me. I was so confused. What do I do?
I needed to go out and think.

I knew it wasn't exactly wise to go into the woods when Octavia, Murphy, Lincoln and Titus had literally disappeared into them and Titus had a gun, but I got my best thinking done there. I went there when I was upset. I'd spent most of my freshman and sophomore years there after Costia's death. The trees were comforting. My black leather boots crunched the twigs into the woods. I didn't know where I was going. I was just walking. I couldn't go back to where I mourned Costia. I needed somewhere new. However, I had explored most of these woods. The only areas I hadn't trodden on were the ones Anya had warned me weren't safe. But what did she know? Nothing. I punched the 'danger' sign that was placed in the woods, watching it break into five pieces. I marched on. Nothing could be that bad. I was sure Anya was exaggerating.

After about three minutes of walking, I looked back to check my surroundings, but I noticed I was totally lost. I checked my phone. No signal. That couldn't be right... We have signal all throughout Polis. Granted, it's stronger in the city centre and weaker out here in the forests, but there's always signal. And now, just when I need it, there isn't.
I decided to head back, because I didn't even know what to think about anyway. But I hadn't got more than a few steps forward before I slipped and fell, rolling down a hill until my vision started to slowly fade...

This chapter felt rushed, I don't know why, I'm sorry! I'll update it again soon :)
