Everyone keeps telling me how this has gone so off topic and so weird and I agree I'm so sorry like I didn't plan this one I just kinda wrote and experimented like I'm so much better at one shots shdjsk.
ALSO I'm gonna do this all from Clarke's pov now bc it's just easier.Anna sat us down in some New Californian looking room. Plush and modern but not overly techy like Arkadia.
"As you may be aware by now, your whole life has been an experiment," she said calmly.
"Yeah, our whole lives are some huge ass lie," Raven growled.
"No," Anna said. "Nothing in your reality was faked. It was all real. The only thing that's changed is that you had someone watching you all the time."
"That sorta makes it a lie," Octavia said.
Anna sighed. "If you allow me to continue, I was about to say that the experiment was a failure."
"A failure?" I was suddenly intrigued. "How?"
"Yes," she replied. "When the Arkadians sent you children of the Ark to Polis, we suddenly freaked. You were out of the environment you'd been put into. It was the same when Aurora headed for New California, and when Marcus Kane started working at Polis Academy. We needed to test how people reacted in different environments to try and make the world better for the future generations. To try and stop wars that are seemingly inevitable. However, when you started to merge we realised that nobody could stay put in one area and that it was humanity that was the issue, not the environment. And when you escaped, that's when we knew everything we'd worked so hard on had been a complete failure."
"Not everyone is like us," Octavia pointed out. "Most of them stayed in their given environments doing as they were told."
"That is true, but there were too many anomalies," Anna said.
"They were mostly all from Arkadia though," Bellamy said. "Doesn't that just prove that Arkadia was a bad environment rather than the whole experiment?"
"Well yes," she said, "but a lot of people don't see it that way. Instead of releasing Arkadia back into society and making the rest stay, they've said that it's shaken the order of the experiment. Arkadia has caused such an impact that removing them would make the other environments crumble."
"So what do we have to do with this?" Raven questioned.
"Well," Anna said, "not only are you the first to ever find out about this, but you are near the centre of the corruption. You all have influence in your locations, particularly in Arkadia."
"So?" I asked.
"Well, I know I said the experiment was a failure, but most our team wishes to preserve it," she replied. "Basically we know Arkadia didn't work, so if our team can get a majority vote to continue the project we need a way to remove Arkadia from society. If we went in as strangers, we could be killed, but if we give you help you can do it for us."
"Isn't it all just a question of power though?" Lexa asked. "Like Arkadia did have the most power and could control a lot of places, particularly Polis where everything was literally run by a kid, so surely with them gone the power will shift to another place and it'll start all over again?"
"Possibly," Anna agreed. "That's what others have been arguing. But with Arkadia a lot of people, even families, didn't get along and their way of life challenged a lot of relationships. None of the other societies have faced that in the same way."
We all pondered on this for a moment. It seemed reasonable enough, but we would be allowing millions of people to live their lives as lab rats, not even knowing.
"I just can't do it," Aurora sighed. "I'm sorry, but I don't want to interfere with other people's lives, and I'm not getting my family dragged back into it either."
Aloe and Vera shrugged.
"I'd prefer to live in a place everyone knows about to be fair," Aloe said. "I wanna go to Disneyworld."
"I need to ask Cinderella if she'd ever consider the gay way of life," Vera nodded.
Anna looked startled at this, and I heard Octavia stifle a laugh behind me.
"I'm really sorry but I'm not doing it," Lexa shook her head. "The experiment failed and I'm not messing with people's lives."
"But we can recover it," Anna pressed.
"I'm just not doing it," Lexa said firmly. "I led my people once and I know when I'm sending someone on a suicide mission. This could result in us all dying. I've just been told that I was a pawn in someone's game my whole life, and if you think I'm just going to willingly go back and be a pawn again, you sure as hell have another think coming."
"I second that," Raven raised her hand and Octavia nodded in agreement.
"What about Murphy?" Bellamy asked. "We can't just leave him in Polis with Ontari."
Anna sighed. "Well, you can go back into the experiment, but with nobody else cooperating we're likely going to have to shut down the experiment."
"And how exactly are you planning on telling about a million people they're an experiment?" Raven raised her eyebrows at Anna.
"We're not sure," she admitted. "But what we are sure about is that something has to be done before they find out themselves."Anna sent us to a nearby hotel where she booked a hotel room for us each. Bellamy and Octavia were staying in the same room, then Raven, Lexa and I were in a room together. Aurora and her family had left for Disneyland. We'd all gathered in mine, Raven and Lexa's room.
"I can't believe it," Raven shook her head and looked into the distance. "Everything...just like a joke...."
"You know what this reminds me of," Octavia said.
"What?" I asked.
"Divergent," Octavia said. "That book, where it's the future and they're put in these factions as an experiment to revert their genetic material back to being pure or whatever. Ending wasn't happy."
"God," I raised my eyebrows. I'd read that book trilogy too, and she was so right. It wasn't quite as dramatic as Divergent, but it was a similar situation. "I loved those books...I always wished I could live in them. Not once did I think I actually was living in them..."
"I know right," Octavia sighed."Do you want to go back?" Lexa asked after a while.
"I don't know," I shook my head.
"I want to get Murphy," Bellamy said, "but then I want to go straight out again."
"Straight?" Octavia smirked knowingly at her brother.
Bellamy rolled his eyes. "Whatever, O."
Lexa laughed.
"We're going back for Murphy," I agreed firmly. "But after that, we need a plan. Do we let everyone else living there know?"
"No," Raven said quickly. We all turned to look at her. "I mean, I know it sounds really horrible of us, but think of the uprising. People will die, and a lot of them. It's not the right decision letting a bomb like that drop."We all nodded in agreement. Raven was right.
We were sat in silence for another half hour, all of us lost in thought. What was real? What wasn't?
Right. What's real? Okay, my name is Clarke Griffin. Right? That might not be real... Am I really 18? I know I like Lexa. I know Raven, Bellamy and Octavia are my best friends. I know Arkadia is corrupt as hell. Right? God, I don't even know anymore. What's real? What if everyone else already knew and were just keeping it secret from me? Is this a joke? Am I genetically engineered? No, that's stupid. Right? I don't know at this stage, God I just don't know. All I know is the only people I care about are sat in this room right now. And Murphy. Step one is rescue Murphy. Then we go forward.
"Let's just take this one step at a time," I said calmly. "Get Murphy. We'll be back on the Isle then and we can see how people are living. That could help us make up our minds. One step at a time."
"I second Clarke's plan," Lexa said, putting a supportive hand on my shoulder. I smiled at her and rested my hand on hers, giving it a little squeeze."Let's go first thing tomorrow," Raven said. "We need sleep first. I'm sure Murphy can survive the night."
Bellamy, who was most concerned about Murphy, nodded. "Okay."We all smiled at each other and the others left our room.
"Until tomorrow," Lexa smiled at me as she turned out the light on her side of the bed.
"Until tomorrow," I smiled at her and turned my light out too, sending us into a soothing darkness.I'm SO SORRY! I haven't updated this since what, April?? Crap...
