*Aaron's POV*
It's been a few days since we returned to Phoniex Drop and my world keeps crumbling under my feet. The first day that Aph, Garroth, Travis, Katelyn, and I returned, we found the village burned down. That was awful and Aphmau took it pretty hard. But what really was the icing on the cake was that Aph was injured, along with Garroth. They were shot in the chest with an arrow, and Katelyn had left to find Travis when it happened so she wasn't there to help protect them. They were both injured horribly. Both of them haven't woken up, but luckily they are still breathing and alive. I sat in a chair by Aph's bed, holding her hand, and stroking the top of it with my thumb. "Hey, I know you probably can't hear me, but I need you to get up. Everyone does. Me, Katelyn," I could feel the tears stinging in the back of my eyes "Lilith. Just please Aph, wake up soon." Finally, I let the tears be released. It was silent sobs. I missed her so much.
I heard stomping from outside the room. It was Dante and Travis. "Aaron," Travis said, panting. "Is everything okay?" I asked, releasing Aph's limp hand. "Someone is at the gates-" Dante tried to finish, but lost his breath. Travis finished for him, "and they request your presence." I nodded, and kissed Aph. With one more look, I stepped out of the room.We reached the gates, and I was shaking. I didn't understand why, I was never nervous. Standing there at the gates was Zane with two other men. His clothes were torn and covered in dried blood and dirt. I glared at him, hoping he would go away. He didn't.
"What are you doing here Zane?" I asked, coldly. "Oh Aaron, aren't you going to be polite and welcome me to your... whatever this excuse of a home his." He laughed. "Everything that happened here is because of you! Now leave!"
"Or what? You'll fail at trying to kill me again? Trust me I'm way smarter than you think."
I balled up my fist, ready to knock him out, but decided against it. "I will ask this one more time, leave. Now."
Zane pushed me aside, laughing as he entered our tragedy of a village.
I ran after him, sword in hand. "Where do you think you're going?" I snarled. He smirked, "Looking for Aphmau. I'm sure she'd be glad to see me."
"She's not conscious at the moment because of you."
He laughed again, "It was very tricky trying to get her, but in the process I got my poor big brother too, so it's a win-win. For me."
"Keep your mouth shut," tears stung the back of my eyes, "you don't know how it feels when that happens to someone you love. She could be dying right now and you don't care at all!" I threw my sword, the hilt of it hitting his head, knocking him out.
"Dante, Travis," their heads shot up when they heard their name, "take Zane and put him FAR away from here." They nodded and ran off. His men fled when he entered the village so I don't think I need to worry about them.
I ran to the house and saw Aphmau sitting up, rubbing her eyes.
I gasped, "Aph! You're awake!" I ran over and hugged her gently. She hissed in pain, but hugged back.
"What happened?" She asked. I sighed, "Zane is the reason that everything happened; the village, you and Garroth getting shot.
Aph put a hand over her mouth, shocked.
"I thought he was gone," she said, hugging herself. I held on to her, "He's not and I'm so sorry about that. It's all my fault." I finally let those tears come out.
"Aaron," she said in a soothing voice, "none of this is your fault." I wiped my eyes. Aph grabbed my hand, "I promise things will get better." She smiled. I nodded, but how could things get better with Zane still alive?
