To "celebrate" the start of another school year, I have decided to dedicate the next 4 chapters for high school advice. I just finished high school, and I can honestly say I saw/experienced a lot of things. I'll probably have answers to any questions you may have!

So, school is around the corner for all of us. Some of you may have already started school, or may be starting sometime this month. For you who are just starting this new chapter of your life, I'd like to give you a little heads up on what you should expect your first year of high school.

You are finally in high school. The "best 4 years of your life", right? You may have moved on from one school to another (which wasn't the case for me because junior high and high school are in the same building here). You may not know where everything is. You may have new teachers, more classes, and less free time.

Here's what to expect:

1. You Are An Underclassman
Yes, you're in high school. But, as a freshmen, you should not expect to be respected by everyone. As for my personal experience, there was always the teasing. Like, "What would you know, freshmen?" or "You're only a freshmen. You can't do anything."

If anyone ever says anything like that to you, don't take it too hard. You are the underclassmen and you've got a lot to learn. However, straight up insults are not to be taken, and you should learn to stand up for yourself at a young age. It'll make them shut up quickly. 😉

I also played sports in high school. Being a freshmen, and the lowest rank, means you'll probably be the ones in charge of helping pack and carry equipment.

Don't worry, we've all done it.

If anyone ever says anything like that to you, don't take it too hard. In the end, it's true. You are the underclassmen and you've got a lot to learn.

2. Friends
You may have heard that high school changed people. I'm here to tell you that's unfortunately true. I can't tell you how many "best friends" I stopped talking to because they weren't the same people I use to hang out with. Thankfully, for me, my best friend is still my best friend, though I did lose friends throughout high school. This is when they start to show if they are really friends of yours, so keep your eyes open. But don't worry, you'll make new friends.

3. Classes/Grades
Okay. Grades DO count now. So, don't slack on your homework! And don't freak out if your school wants you to start thinking about your future, because they will. In the end, it's best to start thinking now anyway.

And yes, classes will be harder than they were in middle school. They're suppose to be. So, please, for the sake of your upperclassmen, do not complain. There is no point in complaining, just do your work and get through it. When you walk with your class in your graduation 4 years from now, it'll be worth it. Trust me.

A few more notes for freshmen:
- Do not date upperclassmen. Honestly, it's digusting. And I can't tell you how many senior/freshmen relationships were at my school...

- Ask questions. No one is going to judge you for not knowing something. It's better to know than say something wrong, especially if you're a freshman.

- Don't try too hard. There is nothing more obnoxious than a freshmen who is trying too hard to fit in. Be yourself! There will be people like you!

Feel free to ask any questions!!

Have a good 1st year of high school, kiddos. ✌❤
