Wow. The years have certainly flown by, haven't they?
You're here, you've made it. It's your last year of high school, and it's a great feeling.
But, oh mayt the good Lord help you with the stress.
I just finished my senior year, where I graduated with honors and with a said "bright future" ahead, thankfully.
I was the first in my family to finish high school. And I'll be leaving for college in a month.
I am the oldest child in my family, so the pressure was oh so great...
I'll try to give you the best advice as I can. And boy, do I have a ton.
1. PLEASE KNOW EVERY SINGLE DEADLINE. ALL OF THEM. Scholarships applications, college applications, anything! Write it down if one have to. But, please, never forget a deadline.
2. You are allowed to procrastinate. God knows I did. But, I'm good at that, you know? I still got everything done. I might've not gotten as much sleep as I probably should've. But I got it done. As long as you KNOW YOUR DEADLINES, you'll be fine.
3. If you aren't good under pressure, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. It is perfectly okay to be an overachiever your senior year. You have so much to do, don't let it pile up. There were things I procrastinated on that I shouldn't have. You'll have free time eventually, but for now, just finish your scholarship applications, because your are gonna need that money for the rising college prices of hell.
4. Please don't date freshmen. I don't know how much I can stress this. Please, please, please. Don't date freshmen. And do not have sex with freshmen either... that's worse. Ugh.
5. Don't let yourself be lied to. This IS the most stressful year you'll experience. The pressure of planning your future is really real now. You've got to choose a college, apply for tons of scholarships, get all your documents together, memorize your social security number (You're gonna need that...a lot), make sure you are passing all your classes and staying eligible for the scholarships, the college, and sports, finish all other necessary requirements (community service, leadership duties, senior projects, job shadows, etc.)
Oh boy, I just got stressed thinking about how stressed I was for those 10 months of my life.
6. Go to school dances and events. High school is suppose to be fun, right? I'm not gonna lie to you though, high school can be a true piece of shit most times. But your senior year is your last year to enjoy the dances, and the football games on Friday nights, sitting in the student section, yelling the chants that you'll remember. Singing that school fight song you hadn't ever found a use for before. No, you are not too cool for that. It's seriously the best part of my high school experience. Our sports events were very important to our community, and it was very fun to share those moments with my friends, not matter how cold it was!! I took the opportunities as soon as I could my freshman year. If you have yet to attend any type of rally or school event, please do so. It's your last year, goddammit, just enjoy it! Participate in homecoming week, go to the dance, go to prom, go to the football games on Friday nights because why not? These are the memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. What a wondeful experience it was.
Just do it.
Ah, but graduating and seeing your parents proud, tear-stained faces when you give your mom that flower, and receive your diploma. Oh, what a great feeling of accomplishment, for sure.
It's still crazy to me to think I'll be in college in a month. The years passed by so fast. It's crazy because we don't realize how much we've really experienced in all our years of high school until it's over. And we realized we've matured and learned so much.
But seriously, don't take it for granted. Do all the fun activities. Get out there. Know what you're passionate about. Learn about yourself. Because you'll never get all those years back to try again.
Have a great senior year!! As always, feel free to ask any questions. I'm here to help! ✌❤
