Just to ease up the nerves, this was probably the least stressful year of high school for me.
I wasn't stressed at all. I felt so liberated. It was nice. I was comfortable with everyone, especially because I really started getting involved. I was added to the National Honors Society, I was a VP of my class, and I was a 2-sport athlete. The homework was minimal, and I didn't have to sign up for scholarships or anything for college. The only big thing that happened to us that year were the PSATs, which don't really count for anything.
But, I can understand why your feeling nervous. You may have had a bad first year. That's okay, you can make this one better! Here's how I did it:
1. Because you have more freedom with your classes, you should chose at least one relaxing class, preferably in the afternoon. My relaxing class was Intro to Foods/Textile Arts. Basically a Home Ec. class where we cooked, baked, and sewed, which I absolutely love to do. In fact, baking is still my stress reliever, and I learned how to makes quilts and crafts alike.
2. Getting involved is really what put me in a comfortable spot in high school. I took up leadership positions, and became a student athlete, playing volleyball and tennis. I started going to football and basketball games, which are a HUGE deal at my school, being state champions and all that. The upperclassmen have more respect for involved underclassmen, and it's really fun!! I don't regret it one bit.
3. If you don't want to get involved, that's okay! You can still be comfortable with a positive attitude and good personality! High school can be a tough place, and if you're nice to people, some will be nice back, no matter how old they are. And stay postive! Because it really helps you get through anything that may happen.
Now, I understand that it won't be perfect. It may have been the best year of my high school life, but of course, there were some negatives.
1. Not everyone will be nice. Some people just live to be bitter, and having haters is really not that big of a deal.
2. Friendship changes are the worst, especially if you and the other person have been through so much or have been friends since before you could walk. It happened to me, where I stopped talking and hanging out with one of my best friends. We occasionally talked in the years that followed, and it seemed as though he wanted to be my friend again during my senior year. Anyway, going from best friends to just acquaintances is really awful, and kind of hurts when it happens so quickly.
Don't worry though; I learned that he had really changed soon enough. Most times, when you lose a friendship, it's probably for the best anyway.
Again, this was probably the best year of high school for me. Now, it may not be the same for everyone, and it certainly won't be perfect, but that doesn't mean you can't make it good! Feel free to ask any questions!!
Good luck, sophomores! ✌❤
