CHAPTER TWO
BEING HANNAH
I open the door The Center where everyone is gathered for tonight's big activity; The Talent Show. I'm only here because A. Shady Oak requires it because this is one of the only times the Day Care across the street from us comes over and participates and B. Sara is making me enter with her, and I promised I wouldn't let her down like last year.
I guess one positive thing is that this talent show is the opportunity for a few kids to be adopted by wealthy families and start a contract for whatever "talent" they show. Honestly, I used to be super excited, but after 10 years of diss appointment, I gave up. Sara, on the other hand, is so excited, she could drop with a panic attack at any given moment. I've never seen her so spooked. I place my hand on hers and give her a reassuring look which she barely sees before she looks back at "them".
Also referred to as "The Populars", these girls are the most gorgeous and ugly girls at the same time.
The Populars consists of 4 girls; Alexis, Abby, Natalie, and Kennedy. Abby is the leader of The Populars. She's the one that all the even close to cute guys are dying to grab. She has dirty blond hair and dark blue eyes. She always is the one to tell people what to do. She's always either raging about something someone did, or bragging about something she did like karate. Honestly, I have no idea why those other girls hang around her. A girl making a face or snapping at everyone has no real place with friends.
Next is Kennedy. Kennedy is the total copy cat of Abby, but a little nicer. She's the one that just follows along with anything. If she had a motto, it'd be "anything goes". Kennedy has light brown hair and green eyes. The only thing different about her that Abby isn't is her eyes. I wouldn't be surprised if she all of the sudden turned into a snake because of those daggers.
Lastly are the twins, Natalie and Alexis. They're the nicest of the bunch with dark brown hair in a bob, and a shade of brown that could almost be black for eyes. They're also the dumbest of the girls. Think of the T.V. show "Victorious". Remember the girl Cat? Yeah, like that times five. Yep, these girls are ST-U-PID like no other. Good thing they don't even ad knowledge us, because they'd be pissed if they saw my glare.
Then, all of the sudden, Sara gets up from our spot in line and walks towards them. "What are you DOING," I hiss as I grab her arm. "I've just about had it. Abby can't act like we were never friends. Just because we fought doesn't mean she can act like I'm a ghost," she replies as she pulls her arm out if my grip and strides towards them with me behind her. I'm not letting her do this without me.
The girls notice us walking and look at Abby for instruction. Abby looks almost surprised as we get closer but slowly covers it up with her plastic smug look. "We'll look what we have here, girls," she says and the pack giggles and gives Abby a look on disgust. Natalie steps up and tries to insult Sara with a, "she's real scary isn't she." Sara filches as if they slapped her and asks quietly if they're part of the show and try say yes. Now it's MY turn. "Of course they are, Sara! They're performing they're single, 'Im a jerk and I know it'." The girls turn to me. "Wow someone's actually talking? Never heard such an awful voice, of course I should expect that from little Annoying's best friend here. Hah! Your voice goes with that face your unknown momma gave you," she says.
I step back. WHAT. DID. SHE. JUST. SAY?! Nobody and I mean NOBODY insults my momma. I slap her hard and she falls on to the ground. The girls rush to help her up, but she pushes them out of the way and swing a kick at me. I easily duck and catch her ankle which makes her fall again. "Don't you even!," she screams. I scoff. "Oh please," I reply.
"I will beat you up," she whispers to me. "oh! Somebody in the populars took their confidence pills!" I say as Sara steps on her foot and she yelps. "Seems like you're all talk," Sara says. "And your cliche here doesn't seem much of a help," she turns towards the three other girls huddled in a corner who back away even further.
After several more minutes of fighting (which surprisingly no one sees), we settle the argument. Lets just say Abby and her help won't be a bother. I turn to Sara who is suddenly pale white. It was all an act for her. She never means anything she says.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
After our squabble, we return to the line just in time for our turn. We run on stage and begin singing Sara's favorite song, "Roar" by Katy Perry. I begin my harmony and see Abby has finally given up and sits in the back with an ice pack on her foot. She tries to move and flinches again. She deserved it.
Finally, we finish our song and everyone claps including The Populars who have decided they better be our BFFs. Serves them right.
Sara and I start walking off the stage when were interrupted by a man in a dark suit. "Ladies," he says as he gives us a nod. We both say hello and then he tells us...... Wait..... WHAT?!?!
The man explains to us that we are both very talented and he'd like us to talk with a family that wants to foster us! I look at Sara who has the biggest smile in the world and looks like she's about to burst in happy tears.
I hug her as we go into Arlets office to do some paperwork.
Best. Day. Ever.
