Chapter 1: “I know you're out of my league…”
It surprised me how well Harry and I got along. Normally, I’d have a harder time keeping a conversation, which led to me having close to no friends, but Harry kept me engaged, asking questions about myself and my life, which might I add, is very plain. It also came to me as a shock when he made no sexual advances on me.
Men these days didn’t just strike up a conversation for the sake of getting to know each other.
He was very humble when it came to me asking him questions though.
Harry was different, and I appreciated that.
We had our small conversations every day for almost a week but on Sunday, he didn’t come around.
“Where’s Harry?” I asked the owner, as Harry was usually here before me.
“He couldn’t find the money.” The dark man told me, wiping the counter.
“What?”
“I usually let you guys stay here and talk, once you buy something,” I nodded in understanding, “And he’s been in here all week. That must’ve been a lot for him…He must really like you.”
“Are times hard for him?” I said purposely ignoring his last statement.
“You could say that…”
The man pointed to somewhere down the road and I followed his instructions until I came to an alley. I heard some small scuffling coming from inside. I peeked my head around the wall and saw a tall man with this head held down and his curly hair hanging over his face. He was shaking around some cup and I recognized him immediately by his time-worn brown boots.
“Harry?” I asked, stepping in full view.
“Soleil?” His head snapped up and he fumbled around to get up, knocking over the cup and spilling the small change onto the ground.
He scrambled around to pick up the contents and rested the small cup against the wall. I stood there awkwardly, smoothening out my dress
“W-What are you doing here?” He said glancing back in the alley.
“You didn’t come around to the diner, so the owner told me where you were….”
“Soleil,” He held onto my hands, “I really enjoy your company, but you could do so much better than me. I’m completely out of your league. As a friend, and uh…otherwise…”
I took in air trying not to gasp because it had been a while since someone had shown interest in me.
“You don’t have to stoop down to my level.”
“I’m not above you.” I tried to correct him.
“Yes you are! Don’t waste your time on me. You deserve someone who has more promise, a REAL job, an actual home!” He paused, “Soleil, THIS is my home.” He pointed to the alley and held his head down, “You can leave now…”
“Harry,” I intertwined my fingers with his, “I’m never leaving you. Especially not now.”
