The officer looked at me. "I know you didn't know this and that's why I'm going to tell you. Filming someone without their knowledge of it is against the law. I won't punish you because your only 11. In your case, you did the right thing." He looked at me pointedly.
We finished talking to the officer and began the trip "home" you could call it.
We pulled into the driveway and I ran into the woods. I found the place that the horse was at and walked casually down to it. I knocked on the door and waited for the man to answer. "Can I help ya?" I turned around to face him.
"Um, I just moved here and I was wondering where the grocery store was. My mom wants me to pick up milk but I dont know how to get to the store." I explained.
"Down the road for about 5 'r 6 minutes, turn right at the first stop light and left at the corner. Can't miss it, little lady." He half smiled.
"I don't have my bike yet. Do you have something I could use?" I asked innocently.
"You ever ridden a horse?"
"Yeah."
"Come with me."
I followed him to the barn. We walked by stalls of horses and as we came to the horse he had been beating, I stopped.
"Can I ride this one?"
"Uhh, Well, she doesn't do well with strangers. Sorry hun'. Here. You can ride Misty or Smoky. "
He pointed to a pair of Dutch Shetland cross ponies. I chose Misty. "You know what? Take them both home. you can have em. I don't have no use for em cuz I ain't got no kids. Go head. Take em home." he said to me.
He tacked them both up for me so I had all of their things. including saddle bags filled with their halters, lead roaps, grooming kits, and feed buckets.
I mounted Misty and grabbed Smokys reins. I thanked the dude and rode home with my ponies. I had just saved two but I needed to save my horse. not ponies. I went to the barn and got each of them settled. I ran inside. I needed to tell mom.
