I tried to resist the urge to hurt them

"So how much do you remember?" Steve questioned calmly. He and Bucky were seated on the couch, Bucky's legs crossed as he flipped through a book that Steve had said used to be his favourite. Steve was leaned forwards, elbows rested on his knees while he paid 100 percent attention to his best friend.

Bucky stole a glance at him then thought for a moment. "Mainly just the important stuff. I remember my full name, James Buchanan Barnes but I go by Bucky, and I remember you, Steven Grant Rogers, my best friend." He trailed off. "And unfortunately I remember a lot from what Hydra did to me. But my head feels pretty clear honestly. It's a nice feeling." He breathed and Steve smiled.

"I'm glad to hear that." Steve murmured. "I can't believe you're actually here, sitting beside me. You seem to be pretty similar to how you used to be." He said gently and Bucky shrugged.

"I suppose so. I still have a long way to go. I'm like one of those amnesia patients who only remembers key things in their life." He explained and peered at Steve. "That's why I'm going to need your help. I'm not even going to give you the opportunity to say no." He teased.

Steve laughed softly. "Good. Because I wouldn't even think of saying no." Steve messed up Bucky's long hair. "You need this mop cut." He stated and then without really thinking he ran his hand over the scruff on Bucky's jaw. "And this needs to be shaved." He stated, tongue flicking out a bit to wet his bottom lip.

Bucky seemed to glance down as Steve wet his lips then he cleared his throat. "Yeah I know. I'm a bit of a mess right now." He murmured. "Actually I think I should get started with that. Do you have a razor? And I don't mean one of those flimsy pieces of shit you've got today either."

Steve frowned. "Language." He mumbled then stood and gestured for Bucky to follow him. Luckily Steve was fairly old fashioned as well so he happened to have a straight razor for Bucky to use.

"Did you just scold me on my use of the word shit?" Bucky asked and snorted as he followed Steve to the washroom. "We're both grown men, golden boy." He teased.

"Come on, Buck. You just got out of cryo and you're already teasing me?" Steve groaned.

Bucky grinned. "That's always been my job, Stevie." He cooed and ruffled Steve's hair like he used to do before Steve got the serum.

Steve just rolled his eyes and fixed his hair before handing Bucky the razor and some shaving cream. "Here you are. I don't know when the last time you shaved was but I think you're smart enough to know that these things hurt like hell when you cut yourself." Steve warned worriedly.

Bucky stared at him with a dull look in his eyes. "Are you kidding me?" He sighed quietly. "Like I just said, we're grown men. I'm a grown man too, believe it or not. And trust me, I know how to handle pain." He stated blankly.

This made Steve flinch and Bucky noticed. "No Steve I didn't mean to make you feel bad or anything but it's true. I can handle a little bit of pain and that's if I even mess up with the razor somehow. Don't worry." Bucky assured.

Steve sighed quietly. "I'm going to make some food. Does pizza sound good?" Steve asked and Bucky shrugged and turned to the mirror so Steve just left the washroom.

Steve knew Bucky was probably still very stressed out about all of this and he honestly couldn't blame him. He really wanted to just give Bucky some space but was also afraid that his friend would slip right through his fingertips again. Understandably, Steve didn't trust the streets enough to believe that Hydra was completely off Bucky's trail.
