CHAPTER 1:
EARLY FRIDAY MORNING
I woke up early in the morning to my alarm blaring loudly. I quickly jumped out of bed, and ran across the room to turn it off.
My roommate Rosie grumbled and rolled over. She looked at me and whispered, “Sometimes I really hate you. I don’t understand why you find the need to work out every morning at 5:30 AM. I just don’t.”
She quickly rolled back over and went back to sleep. I giggled at her quirky comment and went to change.
Rosie and I met when I first came to boarding school and quickly bonded and became one of my best friends. She was a lot like me, smart but witty, social but shy, and quiet but sassy.
We both came from wealthy families that didn’t care for their children, although I came from the states and she descended from British aristocracy. She wasn’t like, royal or anything but her family name did have important history in England.
I left the dorm and started to run around our beautiful state of the art campus and found the trail I had been taking for months now. I ran slowly today, taking in all the beautiful scenery of autumn.
The sunrise caught my attention and I admired the sky’s changing colors. I loved how almost every sunrise or sunset was different, with multiple colors adorning the sky. I decided to speed up, running through the cool woods, where all the birds were chirping.
Tired but satisfied, I returned to campus realizing it was almost 7AM. Once entering the room, Rosie starts to vent to me about her ‘problematic’ life.
Looking agitated, she exclaims, “Cinnie, I cannot believe Colton forgot about our six month anniversary! How could he forget such an important day?”
I start to giggle and reply, “You’re being silly. I’m sure he didn’t forget. He probably just is planning something super special right now.”
She ponders for a minute with an exasperated face, but then relaxes and replies, “You’re probably right… he is being the best boyfriend I could ask for.”
Rosie and Colton are the ‘it’ couple of our school. Rosie, a mesmerizing blonde with a perfect body and striking charm, first only was interested in Colton for random hook ups. However, Colton Fosberry, the charming star rugby player of our school, changed her ‘slutty ways’, if you will, and won her over.
They were the perfect couple and almost inseparable. It was extremely unexpected, for Rosie was known for hooking up with whomever she pleased whenever she pleased.
We both walk into the bathroom to get ready to shower and change for class. I quickly shower first, and then change and put on my make up. Rosie goes in after me, and after we are both changed and ready, we go into the breakfast room to eat.
Sitting with our other friends, we devour our food and have a quick chat on gossip, friends, and boys. There’s a moment of silence, and my friend Eva quickly exclaims excitedly, “Did you hear the boys are having a party tonight?!”
All the girls get exited because this means hook ups, fun, and maybe some more drama.
“Wait, where is the party?” Rosie asks.
Eva replies, “The rooftop of building F”. Building F was a historic building full of crap the school wanted to store in the building, God knows why. It was the perfect place to meet with anyone if you didn’t want to get caught. The rooftop was especially nice on clear nights, when the stars were visible and the weather was nice.
My other friend Amelia leans over to me and whispers, “Do you think Byron will be there?"
I smirk and reply, “Of course he will. Especially if he knows I’ll be there.”
All the girls giggle and whisper jealously, and I know why. Byron is only the hottest guy that’s in grade 12. He’s a typical bad boy with a trust fund that could keep a large family comfortable for a long time.
He’s been caught doing some stuff, sure, but it’s not a turn off for me. If anything, it makes me want him more. Something about him not caring about what anyone thinks makes him to unbelievably sexy.
I spot him across the room with other boys from grade 12, and he keeps full eye contact with me while eating his… apple? How can something so plain be so sexy when he does it?
He laughs at something his friend says and then winks over at me and mouths, “Come meet me at our place during lunch break.” I laugh and shake my head, mouthing back, “Why?” and he quickly answers, “I have something to tell you”. I laugh but quickly mouth back and wink while replying, “I don’t think so”.
He makes a fake pouting face, but I turn back around to talk to my friends. As badly as I want to meet up with him and make out, I sometimes have to play hard to get or do other things so he doesn’t lose interest.
We continue to chatter some more, until the first bell rings and we all say our farewells as we leave for class. I take my backpack, catch Rosie, and walk to my first period: English.
