Based off this prompt: Why don't you want to be alone with me?
~set sometime after ski lodge~
"Why don't you want to be alone with me anymore, Maya?" Lucas asks softly.
It's getting late and he's leaning against the edge of her front door way.
"I don't have to let you into my house if I don't want to, Lucas!" She snaps at him, and goes to shut the door, but he puts a hand out to stop it.
"We agreed to be friends, Maya, remember?" He says desperately.
"I know what we agreed," she sounds as if she's close to bursting into tears, but she continues anyway, "but you're with Riley now."
"So? How does that stop us from being friends?" Lucas persists.
"It just," she sighs, "it just does."
He looks down at his feet. "Is that it then?" He asks sadly.
She nods, and can feel a lump rising in her throat. "Yeah, yeah that's it."
He looks as if he's about to cry. "Okay, I guess...," he takes a deep breath, "I guess I'll see you at school."
"Yeah, see you at school," she breathes.
He walks away down the corridor, and Maya watches until he disappears down the stairs. She shuts the door and slides down it, finally allowing herself to cry.
