The case for marriage

John Hamish Watson leans  back into his usual armchair in the flat of 221b Baker Street. Adjusting the Union Jack pillow just slightly so he can sit more comfortably and placing his laptop on his knees John works on his blog. Sherlock also has a laptop, and is on the floor, leaning casually up against John's legs and scowling at the screen. Sherlock often has this half pouting half scowling look on his face when he's looking at new cases, most of which are usually undesirable for some reason or other. More often than not he ends up in a strop, flicking through  multiple cases and either solving them on the spot or declaring them not worth his time. It is due to this that John is now often left to pick the cases, which he is glad to do if it means he can avoid Sherlock turning into a petulant three year old.

However today Sherlock had announced he was choosing the case, and he is did  so for a very particular reason.

"No, no, no" Sherlock murmured as he flicked down through multiple emails he had received. Some of the cases within  were actually quite promising, with a couple of sevens and eights there, but he passed them all with a continuous scowl. None he had seen so far had even remotely given him a reason to marry John Watson, and a reason to marry John Watson was precisely what he was looking for. Scanning through a few more emails, one of which included a case of a singing pig Sherlock stopped. 'Ah, yes' Sherlock practically purred in his head 'Perfect'

A smug smile forming on his face Sherlock scim read the email, quickly deducing he had practically every reason from it to marry John. Sure, maybe he could complete this case without forming a legal bond, but there was nothing to say it wouldn't be highly beneficial. Quickly changing his satisfied smirk into his best winning smile (which he only used on the most important of occasions), Sherlock turned to John.

"John?"

"Mm?" John replied, his eyes not moving from his laptop.

"Would you like to get married ?"

John's brow furrowed slightly "err, to who?"

"Does it matter?" Sherlock answered, his slightly off putting smile not faltering.

"Well it does a bit" John said, focusing on Sherlock. "I make a habit of wanting to know who I'm going to marry, I'm strange like that" John shrugged, barely keeping in a smile that was threatening to form on his face.

"This is not a joke John" Sherlock frowned, feeling indignant. A small pause followed in which neither of them spoke and Sherlock quickly became impatient. "Well? Do you want to get married or not?"

"To who Sherlock?! Because believe  it or not that's something I actually need to know" John stuttered out, frowning down at him.

"To me, obviously" Sherlock turned around, rolling his eyes.

"Ah" John said, and seemed to consider for a moment. "I thought you disagreed with the very concept of marriage"

"Well I do, it's a complete waste of everyone's time and is a frivolous nothing in which we indulge ourselves to make us feel better in our miserable lives that we lead. It is an exuse to drink and silently judge relatives and friends, whilst hoping whatever pointless wedding gift has been chosen is good enough to look as if they make an effort. Basically marriage is just a legal bond which enables one person to receive the other's possessions when they die." Sherlock finished his rant, and silently began to consider that may have not have helped the proposal he was currently making.

"Right..." John looked slightly puzzled for a moment and the sighed deeply. "Fine, yes I will marry you". John returned to his blog and began editing, his least favourite part.

Sherlock frowned and returned to his own laptop, his hands flying over the keys as he responded to the proposed case. Slamming his laptop closed once he'd finished as pushing it to the side Sherlock sat for a while in silence, his eyes darting around the room.

After a few moments he said "It's for a case"

"I assumed so" John replied, still seeming unfazed by the fact he was engaged to his flatmate.

"So that's decided then" Sherlock stated.

"Yep"

"Good"

"Good"

"I'm going suit shopping then" gSherlock announced, leaping up and pulling on his coat.

John looked up at him "What, right now?"

"Certainly" Sherlock said striding through the flat, he stopped at the door. "Are you coming?"

John smiled ruefully up at him "Do I have a choice?"

"Of course John" Sherlock replied, sounding sincere and sweeping over the threshold. "You know I'd never force you to do  anything you didn't want to do" The cocky detective called as he reached the stairs and began to jog down them.

John scoffed, and grabbing his jacket jogged after his new fiancé, wondering how with just 10 minutes had he not only apparently become gay, but was also engaged to the most eccentric detective on Earth.
