Fire, smoke, and the smell of gas fills the crisp night air. Blue and red lights reflect off the S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement Logistics Divison. I know. It's a mouthful. Thank goodness for acronyms!) vehicles stationed around the source of the fire. A regular car that was crushed up against a tree in the outskirts of New York City. Firemen start to put out the fire as a man with an eye patch and black trench coat starts to talk with a police officer."What's the cause of the wreck?", the man with the eye patch asks.
"We have no leads. There aren't even any skid marks. It's a mystery," the officer says.
"A mystery? And here I thought police officers were supposed to help solve the mystery."
The officer looks slightly offended. "We do the best we can, sir. Who are you anyway?"
"Nick Fury and I'm sure you do, but my friends will take care of this," Fury says, "thanks for putting out the fire. You saved us a lot of time."
The firemen nod their heads as they hop in their truck. "What are you saying?", the officer asks.
"I'm saying your men can head home to their wives and children. S.H.I.E.L.D. will take care of this."
The officer looks at the man's so-called 'friends', who were angelically leaning against the car behind the trench coat man. "I haven't been working as an office for long, but I do know that S.H.I.E.L.D. usually doesn't deal with small stuff like this. They usually deal with alien invasions and heroes gone wild. Things like that."
Fury shakes his head. "Just get out of here." The officer starts to head off to tell his men to leave when Fury says, "And 'heroes gone wild'? Seriously?"
The officer shrugs and continues to tell his men to leave the scene.
" 'Heroes Gone Wild', that's one way of putting the Civil War," a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent says while walking up to Fury, "wonder how the newspapers didn't come up with that first."
"Director Coulson, glad you could make it."
"Well, when you said you suspected it was Laura's car, I had to come right away."
"I see you brought your team."
"Yes, sir. I figured they could help."
"We need all the help we can get. I know S.H.I.E.L.D.'s still low on agents since Hydra's infiltration. Even if it's only been a few years."
"And then the Civil War happened. It's a tragedy. With Captain America, T'challa, and the Winter Soldier all off the radar along with Mr. Rhodes crippled in one leg, and Thor and Dr. Banner are nowhere to be seen, and now this, things aren't exactly looking up, Fury."
"I'm sure you can handle it, Director. I wouldn't have made you director if I knew you couldn't."
"Yes, but now we've lost our second best S.H.I. E.L.D. scientist," Director Coulson says as he gestures to his team examining the wreck.
"It's a tragedy. She was a great agent and doctor, and was extremely helpful to me and to S.H.I.E.L.D."
"I've also heard she just had a baby."
"Now that's very depressing. What's going to happen to it?"
"Laura has a very close friend. Agent Kit Smith. She's a friend of mine. I'm sure she'll take custody of the baby."
"What about the dad?"
"Kit told me that the baby doesn't have a father. It's a test tube baby. Looks, surprisingly, a lot like her mother."
"Does the baby have a name?"
"Skylar, Skylar Sparks is her name."
