Midnight
Upstate New York
Charles Xavier's School for Gifted   Youngsters

Skylar

It's midnight and we've just arrived at the front steps of the school. Riven's not even breaking a sweat as he lets me off his back. I look up at the massive building and see zero lights on.

"Some lights might be on in the back of the mansion," Riven suggests.

"I don't know. I mean it's midnight. I'm sure the X-men are exhausted after dealing with all of the kids today."

"Do you want to leave?"

"No! Absolutely not." Skylar goes up and knocks on the door as loud as she can so someone could hear her from inside the giant building. She hears footsteps and the doors open. A man with blue skin, yellow eyes, and a tail appears at the door. Skylar does a double take but composes herself.

"Um, hi," Skylar says with a smile.

He smiles back. "Hi. May I ask what you're doing here?", he says in what sounds like maybe a German accent.

"This is my friend, Riven. He's a mutant and he's in some trouble. I was hoping if maybe he could stay here. I know he'd be safe here with you guys," Skylar explains.

"Oh, well, let me go get someone. Come inside and I'll be right back."

We step inside and close the door behind us as the man disappears behind a corner. I look up at Riven.  "You're going to be safe."

"I don't know about that..."

"Well, safer than you would be with me."

Skylar grabs Riven's hand and intertwines her fingers in his.

The blue man appears around the corner with a  woman with white hair. "Late night visitors! What brings you here tonight?", she exclaims.

"The boy's in trouble, Storm. The girl brought him here to keep him safe. He's a mutant," Blue Tail Man explains.

"Well then, I suppose we can take him in. What's putting him in trouble?"

"He escaped from a lab and came to me. I kept him safe until my mom came back from work and saw him."

"And your mom is so scary that you're putting him with us?"

"Well, she works for S.H.I.E.L.D."

"Oh, the government agency?"

"Not necessarily. S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't really listen to the government. They're kind of their own agency, but they still protect everyone."

"So, let me guess, this goes farther than just your mom being upset with seeing a boy in your house?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"I killed people. The man that runs the lab trained me to kill and obey him. I had no choice. S.H.I.E.L.D. found out and that's how I got in trouble with them."

"I see."

"You're not going to let me stay, are you?"
