Chapter 18

Stryker's Ex-Lab
An Hour After Skylar's Take Off

Riven

"This is it," Riven says heading toward the exit of the Quinjet. Kit, Coulson, and his team load off and quickly follow Riven. He stands at the entrance looking around.

"Where is everybody?", Skye asks.

"I don't know," Riven says. He punches a few numbers into a keypad on the huge metal door and it opens. It reveals an empty, white hallway with no sound resonating from it. The group steps in cautiously with Riven leading them. They check all of the rooms they pass to find them all empty with only the occasional piece of paper lying on the floor.

"They left," May says angrily.

"I guess they figured out Riven was in the position where he could tell either the X-men or S.H.I.E.L.D. where Stryker was," Coulson says.

"This means he took Skylar, doesn't it?", Kit says shaken.

"Sadly, it does," replies Fitz.

As they were talking, Riven was listening intently while walking forward with small steps. "I hear someone," he says. The group starts to listen themselves.

"I don't hear anything," May says frustrated.

"You're not a wolf hybrid. I'm using my mutation to listen at far distances. Someone's four floors below us."

"Four floors?", Skye says shocked.

"We better get going then," Coulson says.

"Follow me. I know the way," Riven says starting down the hallway. Everyone follows him.

Four floors under the main floor, the team follows Riven through the empty, winding hallways. The hallways down here are metallic, not white like the ones on the surface. They make it to the end of the hallways to find a large, metal door with two thin slits for windows. Riven opens the doors to find a cell in the middle of the room with a blonde headed woman laying down in the center. Riven rushes over to her and tries to open the door but it's locked. He grips the door and pulls it straight off its hinges and lays it on the ground. Riven rushes over to the woman and kneels next to her.

"Laura. Laura, we're here to get you out. What happened? Where's Stryker? Laura, wake up!", Riven rambles. Laura lifts her head slowly off the ground and looks up at Riven with blood shot eyes.

"They're going to experiment on Skylar," she says with her voice cracking. She starts to sob as Riven helps her off the cold, dirty ground. Coulson and Kit rush over to help her up.

"Laura, it's us! Phil and Kit. We're going to bring you home," Coulson says with a smile. Riven picks up Laura bridal-style and leads the team back out of the lab and into the Quinjet.

The team is back at S.H.I.E.L.D. and taking care of Laura. Kit and Coulson have explained everything that has been going on and Laura explained to them about her and Stryker's relationship.
