Hey! This is a book I've been very excited about writing, I love this book! Hope you like it as much as me! Don't forget to vote and comment! Hope you like it!
The cities are in shambles, fires everywhere, people gone. The world is over. Smoke billows up over what used to be big cities. Now it's nothing.
"Hey, whatcha watching?" A voice behind me asks.
I close my eyes. So much for peacefully watching my show.
"I'm watching the history channel, a documentary about the end of the world." I tell the voice. I don't take my eyes off the screen, hoping that whoever is behind me will go away. Unfortunately, that is not what happens. I hear footsteps walk around the couch and someone sits down beside me. I look over, a boy about my age, is looking intently at the screen. He has stylish brown hair and beautiful brown eyes. He's gorgeous.
He looks over, catching me watching him. I quickly turn back to the tv, feeling my face turn red in embarrassment.
"You should watch something more interesting." The boy says. I turn my head to find him smirking playfully at me.
"What should I watch then?" I say, playing along with his game. The boy smiles.
"Anything better, zombie shows are always fun, great for knowing what to do in the apocalypse, and you can add to your end of the world plan." He says. Why would I have a plan for something that isn't even going to happen?
"I don't have a plan, because the apocalypse is never going to happen." His eyes widen in disbelief.
"You don't have a plan? It's definitely a possibility that the apocalypse is going to happen. You need a plan and I'm going to help you make one. We are having a zombie marathon together." I laugh and shake my head, checking my phone. I look at the time and realize I have to go.
"I would love to, but I can't. I'm meeting a friend at the mall, I have to go." I turn off the tv and grab my bag, standing up. He stands up with me.
"Ok, we'll watch it when you get back. I'm not letting you off the hook with this one. I am going to prepare you for the apocalypse that is going to happen." He grabs my arms and pulls a sharpie out from his back pocket, writing his number on my arm. I laugh, looking at my arm.
"You keep a sharpie in your pocket?" I ask, still laughing.
"Yes, it comes in handy for moments just like this." He smiles and I laugh again, shaking my head.
"I guess I'll see you later then." I say, turning to walk to the doors.
"You will definitely see me later."
"Bye, Zombie Boy." I tease, he laughs.
"See you, History Girl." I laugh and walk out the door, heading to my car.
I'm smiling as I drive to the mall. That boy put me in a good mood. I'm actually kind of excited to see him again later. I have a date tonight, my smile gets bigger as that thought enters my mind.
Boy, I'm gonna have a lot to tell Julia, the friend I'm going to see. I've known Julia since kindergarten and we've been best friends since we met, when she shared her lunch with me after mine was ruined by a bully.
I pull into the parking lot of the mall and shut my car off and get out. I walk inside and head to the food court, where we are going to meet.
Julia is already there, sitting at a table and looking at her phone. I smile, she really is attached to that thing. I sit down and she looks up, smiling.
"Hey, girl, what's up?" I smile, still happy about what I'm going to tell her.
"I've got a lot to tell you. But first, I need a drink." She nods and we get up, walking to the Starbucks in the food court.
We both order hot chocolate and go back to our table when we get them.
"Ok, what've you got for me?" Julia asks as soon as we sit down.
"So I met a boy today." I begin. Julia immediately cuts me off.
"Ahh! Finally! I knew it was just a matter of time before found a boy you like!" I wait for her to stop talking and begin again.
"We met in the common rooms at the dorm. I was watching something on the tv and he came and talked to me. He said I should watch a zombie show instead of the history channel. And when I said that I don't have a plan for the apocalypse, he freaked out and told me that he's gonna help me make a plan. We're meeting again later today, to have a zombie marathon. Apparently, he's going to prepare me for the apocalypse." The smile on my face only gets bigger as I talk. "He is the biggest dork, but that only makes me like him more." Julia gasps, happily and so do I, when I realize what I said. I haven't had feelings for a boy since my last boyfriend. I only talked to the boy for 10 minutes! How could I already have feelings for him? It doesn't make sense, but then I guess they never do.
"I'm so happy for you! It's time to move on, that guy Drake wasn't good enough for you anyway. Hopefully this boy is good for you. It seems like he is, by the way you talk about him." I smile and nod. It's true, what she said. Drake, my ex-boyfriend, wasn't good for me, he was abusive and cruel. Ever since I broke up with him, I've been to scared to ever trust a boy, afraid he'd turn out just like Drake.
Julia and I stay at the mall for a while, shopping and talking. She's in the same dorm as I, but in a different room. I give her a ride back, since she took the bus here.
The drive back takes about a half hour and things start to look strange, cars are stopped on the road and on the sidewalk, people are running down the sidewalk, running out of town.
I look at Julia, confused, she look looks as confused as I am. We get back to our dorm and walk in. We stop dead in our tracks when we see the room. Couches are flipped over, the TV has a huge hole in it, and something that looks frighteningly like blood is all over the walls.
I look over at Julia, fearfully. "What do you think happened?" I ask, my voice shaking.
"I don't know, but whatever it was, it was bad. Come on, let's go upstairs." She grabs my arm and we start walking quickly up the stairs.
Upstarts isn't any better than the common rooms. Blood is smeared across the walls and floors.
We each walk cautiously to our rooms. Jules' room is across the hall from mine. We each look at each other one more time before walking into our rooms.
I look around cautiously when I enter. The kitchen looks normal, but it's when I pass Sarah's room that I realize it's far from normal.
Sarah is crouched in the middle of the room, digging her hands into something, eating it. Most of her hair is gone and her skin is a pale gray color.
"Sarah?" I whisper, scared. I realize the mistake as soon as I speak. Sarah goes still, then turns to me. I gasp. Her eyes are completely white, she doesn't have any pupils. She can't talk, only making grunting and moaning noises as she stumbles towards me.
I turn and run, slamming the door, but it doesn't close. It slams into Sarah, who pushes it open and chases after me. I make it to the kitchen before I feel hands grab my wrists. I scream, trying to free my hands. She's surprisingly strong. I wrench my hands free and turn towards her before she can attack again. She lunges towards me and I push on her shoulders, stopping her from getting any closer. I scream again as she try's to claw and bite me. My arms are starting to weaken and I know I won't be able to hold her away for much longer. I close my eyes, starting to accept my death when I hear my door burst open and someone attacks Sarah, wrenching her off me and to the floor, I can hear the person beating her with a bat until she doesn't move or make a sound.
"Are you hurt? Did she bite or scratch you?" The voice sounds familiar and I finally open my eyes, looking at the person that just saved my life.
"Zombie Boy?" I ask, incredulously. He finally looks away from Sarah, and at me. Relief flashes through his eyes as he looks at me.
"History Girl, you're alright. Thank goodness. And my name's Keith, by the way. You are alright, right?" He says, looking at me cautiously.
"Yeah, physically, I'm alright. Mentally though, that's a mystery. And I'm Cassandra." He smiles, relieved.
"Good. That's good." Then he laughs. "Now do you wish you had a plan for the apocalypse? It would've come in handy now." He jokes. I laugh, agreeing.
"Yeah, that was a mistake on my part, I'll admit that. " He laughs, then turns serious. He looks at Sarah.
"Is she the only one that was here?" He asks, looking down the hall. I start nodding, then stop, thinking about what Sarah was eating. I walk pass Keith and down the hall, hearing his footsteps behind me.
I stand in front of her room, looking at what is on the floor. Recognition sets in.
"Oh my gosh." I almost gag. I'm about to put my hand over my mouth when I realize it had been on Sarah. I shudder, looking at what used to be my other roommate, Cathleen. Tears blur my vision. They had been like sisters to me. Them and Julia, we were all like sisters.
Keith comes up next to me, putting his hand on my shoulder. I jump, jolting out of my thoughts. I turn to Keith and he sees the tears on my face.
Sympathy and understanding show on his face as he pulls me towards him, wrapping his arms around me, he lets me cry on his shoulder, comforting me.
After a few minutes, I stop crying and pull back, looking at Keith sheepishly.
"Sorry." He smiles gently.
"It's ok. You needed it, we all will at some point." I nod my head in agreement.
We start to walk back to the kitchen when we hear a blood-curdling scream come from across the hall. Dread consumes me when I think about which room the scream is coming from.
"Julia". I whisper, fearing the worst.
