~Blake's POV~ ~One Hour Earlier~
I sigh in aggravation as I walk to the buildings hiding my men. I turn the corner to find them sitting there, laughing like the idiots they are.
"What is wrong with you? You made her suspicious and I need her to trust me! What in the world were you even shouting at? I don't see any zombies around." They all jump up when they hear my voice, no longer laughing.
"We were trying to get your attention, sir." Michael, the head of security, says. My eyes narrow in annoyance and I see him shrink back in fear. Good, he should be scared.
"Well, it worked. Too well. You made Cassie suspicious and she hasn't even started to trust me, now it's going to be even harder to get her to trust me! Don't you know how important she is to our plan! She's the key to ending the apocalypse! Now tell me why you needed my attention so badly." I almost growl the words.
"The boss wants you back at the compound. He sent these two," he points to two young kids behind him, "to come get you." I sigh in annoyance, but nod.
"Fine, lets go. I need to get back as soon as possible to lead Cassie to the compound. "She's our only chance.
~Keith's POV~
I can't believe she's alone now. That idiot left her alone, sure she wanted to be alone, but that doesn't mean he should leave her alone! I shake my head, watching Cassie enter a sporting goods store. I turn to Karson.
"I can't believe he left her alone. What an idiot! I don't trust this guy. Any normal person would just leave it alone, not walk right up to the danger. We should follow him, see what he's up to." Karson nods, then hesitates.
"But what about Cassie, do you want to leave her alone?" I stop, thinking.
"No, I don't want to do that." Karson puts his hand on my shoulder.
"Why don't I stay and watch over her and you can go see what that guy is up to?" I nod.
"Ok, thanks, man. Meet back here in an hour?" He nods and we go separate ways. I follow Blake while Karson goes after Cassie.
I find Blake turning into an alleyway in between two buildings. He's glaring at a group four. Two men and two boys.
"What is wrong with you?! You made her suspicious and I need her to trust me!" Why are they talking about Cassie? "What in the world were you even shooting at? I don't see any walkers around." The group jumped up when he spoke.
"We were trying to get your attention, sir." Sir?
"Well, it worked. Too well. You made Cassie suspicious and she hasn't even started to trust me, now it's going to be even harder to get her to trust me! Don't you know how important she is to our plan?! She's the key to ending the apocalypse! Now tell me why you needed my attention so badly." He growls the words out.
"The boss wants you back at the compound." Boss? Compound? Who is this guy? "He sent these two," he points to the two boys, "to come get you." Blake sighs, looking very annoyed.
"Fine, lets go. I need to get back as soon as possible to lead Cassie back to the compound." They walk away. What is he planning for Cassie? Whatever it is, it can't be good.
I walk back to the meeting point and find Karson there, watching Cassie with a smile. My eyebrows furrow. Does Karson like Cassie?
"Hey, man, how'd it go?" I ask, sitting down next to him. Karson sits up, wiping the smile off his face.
"Good, she just gathered supplies. What about Blake? What was he up to?" My eyes narrow.
"He has plans for Cassie. And they aren't good. I don't know exactly what it is, but it's one good." His eyes narrow.
"Is he coming back?" I shake my head.
"Not anytime soon. But he plans to be back." Karson nods.
"Ok, at least he won't be with her anytime soon." We fall into silence, watching Cassie as she looks around for Blake. After about a half hour, she goes into a house and comes back out with a supply of water. Then she starts to leave town. I can faintly hear what she says as she leaves, and it breaks my heart.
"And then there was one." She sighs as she says it. I sigh with her and grab my bag, getting ready to follow her. Karson follows me and puts his bag on.
"Should we let her know that we're here now?" I ask, starting to walk. Karson shakes his head.
"No, not yet. She's only be angry. You heard her this morning. She isn't in a good state of mind, she won't be for a long time. She'd be angry that we didn't help Julia. She would want us to leave." I sigh. I don't want that happening.
"Ok, so we wait, but for how long?" I ask. We can't just leave her alone, not in a world like this.
"Until she's not angry anymore. When she thinks about Julia and smiles, remembering the good memories, not the bad." I sigh again and nod.
"Ok, we wait then." This isn't going to be easy.
~Cassie's POV~
I walk for hours, killing walkers as I go, looking for somewhere to camp for the night.
"This is hopeless. I'm going to die out here." I whisper to myself. I look ahead at the road I'm walking down, littered with all sorts of cars. Maybe some of them still work, I think to myself, walking up to a car. I knock on the window and wait for anything to jump. Walkers seem to be attracted to noise. When nothing jumps out, I open the doors and look for the keys. I find them laying on the passenger seat. I try to start to the car and curse when it doesn't work. I'll have to keep trying. I get our and walk to another car. I knock on the window and a body jumps at the window, growling and groaning. I sigh, pulling out my katana, getting ready to kill it. I open the door and wait for it to fall out. It falls to the ground and I immediately sink my sword into its head. It goes limp and I step around it, looking around the car for the keys. I find them on the ground my the drivers seat and pick them up. I put them in the ignition and turn the key, sighing in relief when the engine starts. I put my bag on the passenger seat and empty out all the garbage and useless things from the car. I sit in the drivers seat and start driving, maneuvering through all the cars in the road. Once I'm in the open road, I relax and look at the gas meter. I have less than half a tank, well that's not good. I'll have to drive slowly to save gas. Well, besides that, things are finally starting to look up.
