~Cassie's POV~
"We need to get out of here. Soon." Wyatt says, leaning forward. I nod, looking around, the room we are in has huge windows, looking out at the parking lot.
"The windows, they go right to the parking lot. If we can get out, we can get away." They nod and Cody leans forward.
"We can't leave this place standing. We need to destroy it, and everyone in it." He says, looking around. "I was a chemist major in college, they taught us how to make bombs, I have no idea why, but they did. We're in a college, this was an experimentation room. I guarantee that the right equipment is somewhere in this room. I just need to find it." I nod, looking at the door briefly. We have all day to ourselves, they said they'd let us relax.
"How long will it take you to make it?"
"About an hour, depending on how fast I can find the right equipment." I nod, standing up. They stand with me.
"Ok, we'll help. Tell us what you need and we'll find it." He nods, listing off a list of things, tells us what they look like and we all set off, searching the cupboards. Ten minutes later, we set everything on a table in the far corner of the room and Cody gets to work.
It's a stressful hour, full of checking the door every five minutes and checking the window, making sure no one is watching. I had Wyatt check the room for cameras the minute the door had closed behind that Henry guy. There are none. Makes sense now that we know it's a college. Cameras aren't allowed inside classroom, and I'm not even sure they have enough technology working to make cameras function.
"How do you think this will go?" I ask, pacing in front of Keith. He puts his hands on my hips, stopping my movement, and moves me in between his legs.
"Everything is going to be fine. Cody's smart, he's got this. You're not going to die, I'm not going to die. Blake and everyone working with them is going to die." I smile at his words, the first real smile since I found out I was the 'cure'. I'm not going to die. Keith's not going to die. We're all going to live.
"Ok, it's done." Cody announces from the corner. I walk over with Keith and Wyatt and look at the bomb Cody made. It's pretty big for a bomb, not that I've seen any bombs in my life, about the size of my head. "I looked around when we were led here. We're about in the middle of the building. If we put it outside the door, it will blow up the entire building. There's only one thing. The timer needs to be set manually." I nod, looking at the door.
"How do you set it?" I ask, looking at it. He points to a small switch.
"I set in the codes put in here for thirty seconds, all you've got to do is switch this." I nod again.
"Ok, I can do it, I'm the fastest runner, I can make it." Everyone opens their mouth to protest, but I cut them off, raising my hand. "You all know it's true, so no arguing." They all release a breath, nodding. "We'll wait for everyone to go to sleep. I saw this schedule on the wall when we came here, the curfew is nine o'clock. We'll do it when we're sure everyone is in their rooms. We're the only room in this hall, I saw, it'll be easy." They nod and I gather the rest of the group. "Ok, I'll explain everything later. We're leaving, tonight, and we're blowing this place up when we do." They all nod, staying silent. They know not to question anything anymore, I always explain sooner or later.
The hours pass slowly, filled with tension, all of us trying to relax, but none of us being able to.
"Karson is going to be in here when we blow the building up. Are you ok with that?" I ask, turning to look up at Keith. He sighs.
"He stopped being my friend the moment he started helping Blake." He says, looking down at me. I nod, leaning my head against his shoulder. He kisses the top of my head and we spend the last few hours of the day sitting like that, talking about anything and everything. We learn more about each other, smile, laugh even, and just wait for the time to get out of here.
That time comes an hour later. The clock on the wall says that it's nine-thirty and we are ready to get out of here. We open the window quietly, and I watch everyone sneak out quietly, running to the cars. Keith doesn't leave though.
"Keith, what are you doing? Go!" I whisper, looking up at him.
"I can't let you do this on your own." I shake my head
"No, I will do just fine on my own, you need to get to the car, now." I say sternly, pointing to the window. We're wasting too much time with this. He sighs, knowing that I will make him leave and runs to the window. I turn and walk to the door, opening it silently. I look around to make sure no one is around and lean down, placing the bomb just outside the doorway. I flip the lever and turn to run, but a hand in my hair stops me. I'm yanked back and look up to see a furious Blake glaring down at me.
"So, think you could blow us all up and get away, did you? Well, I'm not going to let that happen. If we're dying, you're going down with us." I glare at him, trying to get away, but he just tightens his grip on my hair. "Not so strong now, are you?" He sneers, smirking. I take a deep breath, fear starting to fill me as the timer keeps beeping, counting down to our deaths. "I'll see you in hell." He whispers just as he goes flying to the wall. I inhale sharply when I see Keith running towards me, a gun in his hand.
"Come on, we only have ten seconds left." He says, hurriedly pulling me up from the ground. Together, we run to the window and jump out, sprinting to the car.
"Get out of here as fast as you can, it's going to blow any second." I say, looking out the back window as Cody speeds away.
As our small parade of cars are about a mile away, the loud sound of an explosion sounds and we look in the mirror to see the fire burning the remains of the building to the ground. There's nothing left. I look at Wyatt and Cody, then turn to Keith, then start laughing. Not a crazy laugh, a relieved, happy laugh.
"We did it." Keith says, smiling.
"We did it." Cody and Wyatt say in unison.
"We got away." I say, smiling. We're free.
