The government has a secret, they are the cause of the apocalypse of the dead. They wanted a weapon, something that no one would be able to beat. They created a virus, one that wakes the dead, that creates more like them.
But it went wrong. It...
I wake up rested, at dawn. Everyone else is waking up too. I get out of bed and go to my closet. I need a good set of clothes to wear on the road. I pull out a crop tank top, a pair of slightly ripped jeans, my black and camouflage bomber jacket, a pair of fingerless gloves, and my combat boots. I also reach into my closet again and pull out a small, black pistol to have with me. It won't hurt to have some extra protection.

I look at the two boys, who are just waking up, sitting up in the bed. "You two," they look over at me, "close your eyes, I need to get changed and you two don't get to watch." Their faces turn red and they quickly turn around. I laugh and get dressed. I give Jules some clothes, and once she's changed, I turn to the two boys, facing the door. "We're decent. You can turn around now." I smirk, because they are still red-faced, and because I can see Keith checking me out from the corner of my eye. But the smirk quickly fades when I realize that we are splitting up now, and I'll never get to see him again. They walk over to us and I smile sadly at Keith. He looks so upset. "I guess this is goodbye then." Keith says, quietly, looking at me sadly. "Is there any chance I can change your mind?" I smile sadly. "I guess this is goodbye. Thank you for saving my life, you really helped me out." He smiles sadly. "And thank you for saving my life, too, and everyone else's." I nod my head, accepting his thanks. "Goodbye, Keith, be safe and please be careful. Don't do anything stupid." He chuckles and rolls his eyes. I start to turn away to walk over to Julia, but he grabs my wrist, pulls me towards him, and wraps his arms around me. I hug him back for a few seconds, resting my head on his chest, before finally pulling back. I smile at him one more time before walking over to Karson, saying goodbye. "Make sure Keith doesn't do anything stupid while you're traveling." I joke, hugging him. He hugs me tight for a while. After a couple seconds I pull back, and walk to Jules, smiling at him one last time. I strap my katana onto my back, then my quiver. I keep my bow in my hands, in case I need it. I pull my hair into a high ponytail and turn to Julia. "You ready to go, then?" I ask, unable to avoid the inevitable. She sighs and nods, strapping her katana's to her back and tucks her knife into her knife holster on her hip. That reminds me of my knife and I put my knife in my holster on my hip and tuck my gun into my jeans. I turn to the two boys staring at us sadly. "We'll go with you to your room while you get your supplies and we can walk down together. Then we go our separate ways." Keith sighs when I say this, but nods. "Ok, let's go." We all walk to the door, unlocking it and opening it, walking into the hall we all huddle together, watching both directions the hall goes. Drawing an arrow and nocking it on my bow, I start to walk down the hall in the direction of the boys' room. I walk slowly to the door and wait for Keith to open it. I don't relax until we're inside and the door is locked. But I keep my bow ready, waiting for anything to happen. I stand watch while Keith and Karson fill backpacks with what they'll need. They fill them with food, water, extra clothes, and blankets. I should have thought of that, we'll need something to keep us warm at night. I shake my head at my stupidity and sigh. I guess it's too late now. When they're done, they both hug us one more time, and we start to the door. I unlock the door and slowly open it, looking cautiously into the hall, checking for any shuffling beasts that I'll need to kill. When I think it's safe, I open the door more and walk out. We slowly walk down the hall and down the stairs to the main floor of the dormitory. We slowly and cautiously walk into the commons rooms and I stop dead in my tracks. One of them is in there. I stop everyone, holding my hand out. They notice my and we all hold our breath, trying to quiet our breathing. Keith try's to go kill it, but I stop him. I raise my bow and pull the string back. I take aim, take a deep breath, and release the string as I exhale. The arrow flies through the air and hits it's mark, right where I was aiming. Right in its eye. The creature drops noiselessly and I go to retrieve my arrow. I pull it out and wipe the blood off on a rag I had taken from my room, then put it back in the quiver. I turn back to my friends, who are all staring at me in amazement. "Let's go." I walk toward the door and slowly open it, cautiously looking around. Surprisingly, it's relatively quiet, no people or monsters in sight, I walk out, checking my surrounding. It's a mess. Cars are tipped over, some are on fire, there are bodies everywhere. But these ones won't be coming back. We stand in a group, saying our final goodbyes. "I guess this is it. Be safe and be careful, please. I hope you guys find somewhere safe." I tell them. "It was good meeting you. You saved my life, thank you, again. I'm glad I can call you my friends." I smile and stop talking. Julia begins. "Yeah, I'll always remember you dorks." She jokes, causing all of us to laugh quietly. "You saved my best friend, so, thanks for that. I'm happy that I can call you friends, as well." She smiles and stops talking. Keith starts. "It was good meeting you girls, even though you were watching a boring history document," I roll my eyes, and glare at him playfully, "you saved my life, too, thank you for that. You are great friends. I'll always remember you." He looks at me when he says that. "Always." It seems like there's a double meaning behind his words. He finishes and Karson starts to talk. "You chicks are awesome, I'll say that. And you're both hot, which just makes me like you more." He winks at me and I blush and laugh. "And you are both extremely cool and amazing. I'll definitely remember you. I'm gonna miss you two." We are all silent for a minute. "We're gonna miss you guys, too." I say, smiling. Karson steps forward, pulling us all into a group hug, which lasts for several minutes. Finally, we all step back, and without saying another word, just sad smiles, Julia and I turn and start to walk away, heading for my car. We are officially on our own, in an apocalyptic world. ~Keith's POV~ I sigh as I walk Cassie and Julia walk away. I really, really, like Cassie, and now she's walking away from me, towards her possible death. I think Karson likes Cassie, too, which just makes all this so much worse. I don't think I'll be able to stay away from her. I look at Karson and can tell he feels the same. "How long do you think it's gonna be before we follow them?" I ask, half joking, half serious. "Let's give them a half hour head start." I shake my head. Not that long. "Too long. Let's just go now, they're gonna be in Cassie's car, aren't they? That'll give them the head start they need. We'll shadow them for a while, until they need us. But, until that happens, we stand back and watch. Does that sound good?" Karson is nodding, but he looks confused. "Why don't we just catch up to them and travel as a group." I shake my head. "I don't want them to think that we are only going with them to protect them. They need some time on their own, to adjust to the world and be able to protect themselves." Karson nods. "Ok, that sounds good. Let's go." The first steps to the rest of our lives, in an apocalyptic world.
