I was much more comfortable when the gun was on me, was my last thought.

I saw Felix with his gun trained on Dan, and heard a click. Immediately I closed my eyes, fearing he had been shot. But no explosion followed.

I opened my eyes to see that I was no longer in that room. I was surrounded by tall empty buildings that looked like a ghost town from an old American western. The game must have started.

"Hello?" I called out. My voice echoed through the empty town.

I looked down at my body. I had on a typical peasant outfit, it was completely brown and very loose, except for a red scarf draped over my right shoulder and around my neck. My hands found their way into my pockets as I began to stroll down the streets. It seemed that instead of everyone "spawning" in the same place, we had all been interspersed throughout the first level.

I peeked carefully into each building, checking for supplies or people. In almost every building there were pieces of furniture toppled over all over the floor. A thin layer of dust coated everything, and you could clearly tell where I'd walked.

I was nearly through with the town when I finally found something. As with each house before, I stuck my head in the door, and said, "Hello?"

Silence.

I pushed the door open. It squeaked as the hinges moved for the first time in presumably ages. The only sounds to be heard were the thuds of my footfalls. I flipped over chairs and tables, looking for anything. Then I heard something. A weak coughing sound.

"Hello?" I said again. Immediately, the sound stopped. I carefully stepped in the direction I thought the noise had come from. "I won't hurt you, if that's what you're worried about," I called out.

I continued in the direction, each footstep slow and rhythmic. A rustling sound drew my attention to a table leaned against the corner of one of the walls, slightly left of me. I tuned my direction as I headed towards the table.

Suddenly, a white blur came from behind the table and launched itself at me.

"OH MY GO--" I screamed in shock. The white thing landed on my chest, knocking me onto the floor. I started batting at it with my hands, wanting it off of me, but not wanting to hurt it.

"Ari!" someone called. Immediately, whatever had been attacking me froze. It crawled off of me and stood next to me, glaring at me. Now that it was still, I could see that it was a giant white dog, and very floofy. It had blue eyes, with black marks around them, and it growled at me when I propped myself up.

I looked over to where the voice had come from. An old woman was lying on the ground. Her hands were pressed against her side, and dried blood was everywhere. Scratches were all over her body, and her breathing was ragged.

"Take this," she said as I rushed to her side.

"Are you okay?!" I asked.

"Of course not," she chuckled. "Could you undo my necklace?"

I looked at her dubiously, before undoing the chain as she had asked. It had a small silver pendant with a wolf face etched into it.
