Something was wrong.
I ran into the room where we managed the cameras for The Game. The cameras were pretty much omnipotent (all seeing) like in a television show. Most of then were quiet, showing all the players adjusting to the video game and trying to unlock secret abilities. All of them except three.
Which showed one very tall, black haired man trying to save his friend from a gigantic troll.
"Where did that come from?!" Felix screamed. "I did not program any trolls into this game!"
Nobody answered. They were all too busy clicking away at their screens and keyboards, trying to figure out how the troll was there.
I sat there, staring at a screen. I was no help with computers or programming, so I simply sat back and watched Phil's battle. He started out pretty poorly, swinging his sword at the troll ineffectively. The troll merely laughed. He backhanded Phil, who flew across the room and slammed against the wall before sliding down it in a heap.
Ari, the wolf, flew at the troll, hooking his teeth into the troll's arm. The troll let out a howl of pain, and immediately began trying to shake the wolf of.
Phil stood up, and staggered for a step or two, before charging forward. He slashed at the troll, managing to leave a huge cut on his leg. The troll howled again and tried to hit Phil whilst Ari was still on his arm. Phil danced around, stabbing and slashing wherever he could. He plunged his sword deep into the troll's leg. The troll, shocked, fell back and fell against the table on the way down. Ari immediately let go and attacked his face.
Meanwhile, Phil was trying to make sure he wasn't hit by the falling table. He managed to avoid it as it came crashing down, its contents spilling all over the floor. Unfortunately, the table, which on its side was at least twice the height of Phil, now blocked him from the troll.
The stew pot holding Dan had fallen off the table and slung him out. He was now laying on his side in the corner, apparently unconscious. Ari still attacked the troll, and Phil tried to find a way around the table.
"Hey!" someone shouted from a computer. "I think there's some sort of virus!"
Felix ran from where he was to go look at the computer. The two began furiously talking between themselves and Felix called someone else over. I tried to pay attention to the screen, but everyone was moving around too much and making too much noise.
I slumped back in my chair, waiting for everyone to move. After a few minutes it was clear that no one was going to make way for me to see, so I stood and barged forward, forcing people out of the way until I could see the screen again.
The troll had thrown Ari off and was now looming over Phil. Phil was shaking and he could barely hold his sword up.
"Ari?" Phil whispered.
He cocked his head slightly. He backed up a few steps as the troll began to talk. I didn't pay attention to what he said, instead studying Phil's face.
He looked straight at the troll, paying attention to his every word. After a few moments, he looked away, studying his surroundings. Phil finished surveying the room, gripped his sword tight, and began running towards the troll.
As Phil neared the table the troll laughed and bent down, prepared to beat Phil into a pulp. Phil jumped up and landed on both feet before soaring back up in the air. He threw his sword back, yelled, and fell towards the troll's face.
The troll had time to blink before Phil's sword completely embedded itself right between its eyes.
The troll fell to the floor, taking Phil down with him. The troll dissolved halfway down though, so Phil ended up landing on his side on the floor.
Nothing moved.
Behind me, all activity stopped. No one breathed. Everyone stared at a screen, shocked that Phil had somehow been able to kill the troll.
The first thing to move was Felix. He walked forward slowly until he stood side by side with me.
"How?" he breathed.
"I don't know," I answered.
On the screen a black box above Phil's head.
Achievement Unlocked: Super Jump.
"I did not program that," Felix said.
"You didn't program the troll either," I pointed out.
"Touché."
At this, everyone scrambled to get back to work. I walked out of the room, needing some time to process this turn of events.
I soon found myself outside the room Susan and Allie were in. I turned and walked in. The two made no indication that they saw me arrive, they just continued to stare off into space. I sat cross legged on the floor and leaned back against the wall so I could see them.
For several minutes, none of us said a word.
I broke the silence. "Phil killed a troll today."
