"Clara, get up." He laughed.
"Hmmm? Who are you?" I mumbled against the pillow that I was hiding my face in.
He grabbed my shoulder lightly and turned me over so I could see his face. Jesse. How could I have forgotten the party last night? I couldn't remember much because of being so drunk, but I could remember the basics. Jesse smiled lightly at me, and I tried to smile back, but I had a massive headache. I tried rubbing the bridge of my nose to get it to go away, but it was hopeless.
"Headache?"
"Yeah." I mumbled.
"So what made you so upset last night to make you come to the party the way you did?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, normally, you'd remember that it was my house. Also, when you walked in, you had a wierd look on your face, like you were ready to burst into tears, but yet you also looked majorly badass. You acted like you'd get down with any guy just to take your mind off of stuff." He shrugged.
"Oh. I just... I was just upset, okay? Why the hell do you care anyway? It's not like you've ever gave a shit..."
"Hey, now you know that that sure as hell isn't true. I've always cared about you. I still do.."
I laughed bitterly. "Bull."
"You want a bet?"
"Not really. Plus, you have no way of proving it to me anyway."
"Yeah I do."
"Oh yeah? Ha, how?"
"After I put you in bed last night, I went back downstairs to the party. I noticed some guy going upstairs, so I went to see what he was doing. He went into my room sat on the bed next to you. A tiny part of you was still asleep I knew, and he was willing to take advantage of that. He started touching you... a lot. And he started kissing your neck. At first I just watched, I figured he'd leave in a minute, but he didn't.
"He got up and tried to get on top of you, and I couldn't let him do that. I walked in and told him to leave, but when he wouldn't, I lost it. I grabbed his arm and yanked him to the floor. Then I started punching him as hard as I could untill someone came in and told me to knock it off." He nearly whispered.
"Why?"
"What?" He was confused.
"Why didn't you just let him do it?"
"Because I care about you, Clara."
I was speachless. "Well, um, I have a boyfriend, and you have a girlfriend."
"Do you? Then why'd he let you come alone last night? Why were you willing to fool around with any guy, let alone the guy who broke your heart."
I thought about that, and suddenly remembered. "Oh. I remember now." I whispered more to myself then to him. "But you still have a girlfriend."
"No I don't. I broke up with Ally, Clara."
"Look, I um, have to go. Sorry, I guess I'll see you around."
He nodded but pulled me in for a hug. My arm stung and I winced.
"You know, I know you Clara. You should really take better care of your arm. Put medicine on it." How did he know?
"How...?" I asked him.
"You were clutching your arm in your sleep last night and you were crying, and you wouldn't let go of your arm. I tried to wake you up to make sure you were okay, but when I finally did, I guess you were way more asleep then awak. You wouldn't tell me why you were crying, but you kept telling me your arm hurt. So I pushed up your sleeve and saw the bandage. I unwrapped a little of it, and I saw your wrist, but by the way the bandage was wrapped up to your elbow, I guess that's how far it went. You really need to stop cutting, Clare."
