*Why Only Today?*
(An improved version of a poem I wrote years ago)
The flag is held high!
It's a colourful day!!
All Indians are happy today
And I can hear everyone say:
"Happy Freedom,
Happy Independence Day"
*But why only today?*
I am an Indian and I am proud
The cry is heard loud and loud
As if to celebrate this day
It is the only way
*But why only today?*
We share quotes that express our patriotism
To get rid of all sorts of criticism
We upload DPs to flaunt our love
And believe we are true Indians now
The quotes, the DPs disappear the very next day
*So why only today?*
We reminisce those who shed their blood
In their memory our eyes flood
Tribute to their sacrifices we pay
*But why only today?*
We shed our differences and unite
We pledge we will never fight
We will strive together
For the nation's progress we say
*But why only today?*
We are full of ambitions high
To our dreams the limit is sky
Aspire to climb the ladders
Of success and welfare we may
*But why only today?*
We are only bothered about "My right"
And for this purpose we always fight
But we fail to realise the beauty
That lies in performing the duty
The purpose of freedom
We never understood
And we never did
What we actually should
We need to know and bear in mind
These emotions we should always find
In every mannerism, in every kind
And towards evil never be blind
Let us practice and not just say
Whether it be September, Feb or May
No matter which day it is today
Let's make it an INDEPENDENCE day
*But NOT ONLY TODAY?*
PS: Now don't ask me why this poem only today🙈
