Hey, New Girl     -      REVAMPED VERSION!

*~*~*~*

“If I was a rich girl," Vanessa, who insisted on being called Ness, sang loudly from the car pulling up to the school, "La la la la la la la!"

I laughed and shook my head in return, I didn't know these girls well enough to be a total asshole yet.

Ness expertly slipped out of the back seat of the blue Fiat with her door hardly opened to protect the huge, expensive car next to her. She thanked Ebony for the lift and skipped over to me, followed by Ebony's sister and Ness's best friend, Sarah.

Ness spun in a small circle, scanning the car park, "No BMW?" She pouted. Ness was dying to get a good look at my car. If I brought it here, it would almost definitely get scraped by some first year idiot, but I had more reasons than that for leaving it behind.

"Afraid not, chica," I replied, patting her on the shoulder.

"Don't think you can go all Spanish  and get out of this Missy," Sarah looked on at us and laughed.

"Lo siento, tendrá que verlo otra vez," I winked. A year and a half in Spain came in handy.

"No parents dropping you off?" Sarah asked, with a sympathetic tone to her voice. Sarah only had her mum and sister, I discovered over the summer. The three were very close, I'm not sure she could imagine not getting on with them.

I loved my parents, I really do, but they can sometimes be a little... insensitive and my mum especially was a bit of a show off. Every time she had friends over she pulled all the levers, or rather she got the staff to do it for her. But it made her happy, so I suppose I'll just have to put up with it.

"Thank God, I don't want to go through that whole thing again," I blurted out.

"What thing?" Sarah asked me

"'Why don't you get Harry to drive you?' 'Why are you wearing those clothes?' and the classic," I cleared my throat and put on a high voice, "If you've got it flaunt it dearie!" The girls laughed at my impression, but it wasn't as exaggerated as they thought. They hadn't met my parents and I had wanted to hold off for as long as possible on that event. But they were pushing me hard.

"Remind me," Ness asked, "Why aren't you taking their advice?" She gave me an extremely confused look.

"Because I've done it before. And trust me, I don't want to do it again." I sighed.

"How was the weekend?" Sarah quickly changed topic and the conversation began to flow between us.

Obviously, it was easier with them now than three weeks ago when they first told me to "sit down and have a chip." It was much appreciated. I wasn't bad at making friends I just wasn't exceptionally charismatic.

The problem was, I was too aware of myself all of the time. I talked too much and laughed too loud and sometimes I didn't really listen at all. Luckily, these girls hadn't noticed all that yet and it was too late for them now, I almost considered them friends.

The other two turned towards the front door of the school as the bell rang. I clutched the straps of my bag as if it were a shield, "Day one at Clear Lake, here we go." And breathing deeply, I started to walk towards the school.

"Hey," I heard clicking behind me, which I did my best to not get completely infuriated by. "Hey, new girl," I rolled my eyes and turned to face the source of the voice. Was Alyssa such a hard name to remember? Come on the teacher literally just introduced me.
